Remove Gateway

I was playing around with the Data Gateways. Since I installed one none of my datasets in the service will update, they say:

Your data gateway (Power BI – personal) is offline or couldn't be reached.

When I go to configure gateways it says:

"You don't have any data gateways".

How do I delete whatever gateway I had set-up so I can go back to having my data refresh on a sceduled basis.

I can't even manually refresh my data at the moment.

Thank you,

Ben

    Hi Anonymous,

In Power BI Service, some data sources require gateway to refresh data, for example: SQL Server, SSAS,...etc. So if you delete both personal gateway and data gateway, it's also not able to refresh data. Please check whether data sources require gateway refer to this article: Data refresh in Power BI.

In your scenario, it said the personal gateway is offline. Please go to the server which has personal gateway installed, find and open the personal gateway, check whether it's running like below:

And the message said "You don't have any data gateways", it means you haven't created a data source used in the dataset under the data gateway. You need to configure a data source under the data gateway firstly, then you can select it when you configure dataset settings. For more information, please refer to this article: Manage your data source - SQL Server.

If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

    Best Regards,

    QiuyunYu

I had the same error while my gateway and datasource where up and running:

Your data gateway (Power BI – personal) is offline or couldn't be reached.
Please try again later or contact support. If you contact support, please provide these details.

The trick was to attach the data source to the gateway under "Settings -> DataSources" .

The gateway I initially set up for testing purposes was on a server that no longer exists (test equipment).  How can I disassociate this old personal gateway?  Every time I set up a new dataset it always attaches to this non-existent gateway and I can't use my new Enterprise Gateway because of this.

Anonymous Perhaps uninstall it from the machine you installed, delete all the related files and registry keys and then remove it from the service.

Had the same issue. I managed to add all the data sources required for dataset into the entreprise gateway but the only gateway i saw was the personal one added before. After deleting all datasets and republished them i could add the entreprise gateway.

      Thank you.

The issue remains. It is true that you can install the enterprise Gateway, but not Unisnstall / reinstall the Personal Gateway. Hope this bug is being worked on.

Personnally I do not need and want to use a Gateway for the files i access since they are on OneDrive and SahrePoint, but this is annoying.
