Unable to create a relation between text fields

Dear experts,

I am facing a strange issue.

I have 2 excel files as sources.

- the first one is a the transaction data of sales data. One of the fields (StellinID) is the location of the goods, on 8 characters as a text field

- the second one is the master data of that location (key and description) : the key is a text field, 8 characters long...

When I create the relation 1:N in the relationship manager, it does not complain. But, when trying to get the transaction data by the description of the Stelling (like Sales per stelling name), the relation does not work. It can not find the corresponding values between the tables...

I checked the duplicates, I checked, the lenght, the type...

Any idea where it could come from ?

Thanks

PY

  • Hi Anonymous ,

    1. You relationship netween the tables "Sales by Day" and "Stelling_Master_data" on column "StellinID" is perfectly right.

    2. In you .pbix file on "Page1" tab, 3rd table on the right, you have moved Stellin Id from both the tables but you get blank data for StellinID from "Stelling_Master_data" against the StellinIDs coming from "Sales by Day". The reason for this is, these StellinIds don't exist in your "Stelling_Master_data".

    Unique StellinId count in "Stelling_Master_data" = 136

Unique StellinId count in "Sales by Day" = 16

There exist no common "StellinIds" in these two tables.

If this helps and resolves the issue, appreciate a Kudos and mark it as a Solution! 🙂

    Thanks,

    Pragati

    Hi Anonymous ,

Could you please show some screenshots of your data, data model, and relationship?

if you can share a pbix with some sample data, that will be better.

    Thanks.

        Hi Anonymous ,

You can upload the .pbix file on your drive and create a sharable link. That link can be shared here.

        Thanks,

        Pragati
