Tooltips suddenly not displaying

I've got a report with lots of tooltips that have always worked in the past. For the last few weeks, they haven't been displaying in the Service, although everything works perfectly in Power BI Desktop. I tried switching from report page tooltips to standard tooltips, but that didn't make a difference. They still work on other reports, just not this one. Does anyone have any idea why?

    The fact that the tooltips still work in Power BI Desktop, and also still work in other reports in the Service, makes me think this is probably specific to this published report rather than a general tooltip setting.

    Microsoft still documents standard visual tooltips and report-page tooltips as supported in both Desktop and the Power BI Service.

    I would test these in order:

    1. Confirm Tooltips are still enabled on one of the affected visuals.
    2. If any report-page tooltips are used, confirm the tooltip page still has Allow use as tooltip enabled and that the visual is still pointing to the correct tooltip page.
    3. Publish the same PBIX temporarily under a different report name and test that new Service report.
    4. Test the report directly from the workspace rather than through an App, if applicable.
    5. Try an incognito/private browser session or another browser.


    The republish-under-a-new-name test is especially useful here. If tooltips work in the newly published copy, that would point more toward an issue with the existing Service report artifact/state rather than the PBIX itself.

    Microsoft’s current tooltip troubleshooting guidance also recommends checking the report-page tooltip assignment and Allow use as tooltip setting when tooltip pages stop appearing.

    Since you mentioned that even switching back to standard tooltips does not help, I would not rebuild the tooltip pages yet. I would first establish whether the problem follows the PBIX or only the existing published report.

    If the newly published copy has the same problem, it would also be useful to know whether every visual in that report is affected or only certain visual types.
