Table Visual Sorting

Hi!

Do anyone know if Microsoft will release a simple table visual with sorting disabled option and "hide column" option?

Right now the visual sorts by the first column alphabetically and on top of that it handles the three extra letters of the swedish alphabet wrong.

What I need is to present a table with data sorted in the way I do in my source (and yes databases generally handles the swedish characters quite good).

  • No changes to the table visual.

    Steps i take are:

    1. Select field to sort from field list.

    2. Under Column Tools in the header select 'Sort by Column'

    3. Select the 'sort order' column and the table should update to reflect the ordering.

    4. If you add additional columns and the ordering changes, just reclick the column header you want to sort on or follow the image PhilipTracey provided.

  • Hi rogzon

You can choose what column to sort a table by

What are your Global Regional Settings?  These determine how strings are compared/sorted

File -> Options and Settings -> Options

      Hi! PhilipTreacy

The regional settings were unfortunately correct (Swedish), it would have been a neat solution thanks.

When it comes to sorting I would need the table visual not to sort at all, the correct sorting is done in my source so if there is a table type visual that does not sort I would be happy.

A possible workaround would be to create a "sorting column" but the data in that column is of no interest to the users and I am unable to hide it in the visual.

So either a table visual with the ability to disable sorting or a table visual where columns could be hidden would do the trick for me, any suggestions?

  • Hi Roger,

Once you have selected the column to include your table you can select 'sort by column' to sort this column by the 'sorting column' without having to show it in the table.

      Hi John,

So the sorting you mention is done in the table view?

Unfortunately the table visual still sorts by the first column added to it, it ignores the sorting in the table view.

If the "sorting column" isn't present in the table visual I am not able to "sort by" it in the visual.

Was that what you meant or am I missing something?

      Regards,

      /Roger

        Hi Roger,

It can be done in both the report or data views. In my screenshot the left table would be the one you are trying to produce. The status column is not the first column. But the table is sorted by the sort order you can see in the right hand table even though it's not present in the first table.
