Speech Bubble Alignment

I have a speech bubble, with middle horizontal alignment and middle vertical alignment with no padding, but the text does not sit in the middle of the box part of the speech bubble.

As far as I can tell the tail is also included as part of the area used to determine what is the middle of the shape (see below with "top" alignment).

I CAN get it to centralize using padding, but this is annoying to do for every speech bubble.

By using padding, the text automatically re-sizes for no apparent reason (I built this report on my smallest screen and sized the speech bubbles to fit, but it will randomly re-size and text wrap even when there is enough space for the whole text to fit).

Anyone have any idea how to easily align the text in these shapes and/or how to stop random text wrapping?
