Switch your slicer style to the new "Date picker" and set the anchor to "Last date". This natively defaults it to the max date of your dataset without any complex DAX workarounds.

Here is how to set it up:

- Select the date slicer on your canvas.

- Go to Format pane -> Visual -> Slicer settings -> Options.

- Change the Style drop-down to "Date picker". (If it's missing, you might need to enable it via File > Options > Preview features).

- Click the calendar icon on the slicer itself. You will now see an option to set the relative range anchor to "Last date".

It’s been a massive headache for years, but this recent update finally fixes it. The slicer will automatically grab the max date from your dataset and roll forward every time your data refreshes.
