Getting Started - Table Relationship & Quick Dashboard

Hello

I'm fairly new to PowerBI and have been watching some videos and hoping that someone can point me in the right direction.

Just for starting/testing purposes, I have two data tables, loaded via CSV in PowerBI Desktop.    Let's refer to one of the tables as USERS, and the other as DATA.

I would like to build a quick dashboard that lets you select a user from the list, and then grab the corresponding relating data based on that user from the DATA table.  The tables each have a primary key called ID column.    Essentially the data table will contain multiple rows containing a given USER ID, whereas the USER table would only have the value once.

e.g.

USERS

ID | Name | Age

1234 | John Doe | 15

1267 | Someone Else | 17

DATA

ID | Plan Name | Percentage

1234 | Onboarding | 0.25

1234 | Role Specific | 0.05

1234 | Welcome | 1.00

1267 | Onboarding | 0.25

1267 | Role Specific | 0.05

1267 | Welcome | 1.00

Anyone know of a couple good youtube tutorials or anything that would be similar example?  I have coding experience, worked with Azure a bit in the past and databases, but never touched PowerBI!

That's it in very basic form.  If I can get that communication and dashboard working, I think the rest I'll start figuring out.  I just don't want to go down the wrong rabbit hole!

thank you

  • Hi,

Create a relationship (Many to One and Single) from the Data Table to the Users Table.  To your visual, drag Name from the Users table.  Write this measure

    Measure = sum(Data[Percentage])

    Format the Measure as %.

    Hope this helps.
