Error SSL/TLS from web

I'm having problems getting data from the web. I get the error: "The underlying connection was closed: Unable to establish trust for the SSL/TLS secure channel." I already went to the powerbi desktop settings, and disabled the certificate revocation check, and I also did this by changing the registry key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Power BI Desktop , creating the value DisableCertificateRevocationCheck= 1. but it doesn't work. I also went to the internet settings and cleaned the SSL status, but I was unsuccessful. I can establish a connection with the website using Microsoft Excel, and with the browsers.

  • In addition to all that the gateway will not ever allow you to do that. Work with the web page owner to get their certificate renewed.

    Hi jfo

Here are a few more suggestions that might help resolve the issue:

    1. Check .NET Framework Settings
Power BI Desktop relies on the .NET Framework for various operations, including web requests. Ensure that your system supports and is configured to use the appropriate version of TLS (ideally TLS 1.2 or higher) for secure connections.

Enable TLS 1.2 for .NET Framework 4.5 or later (if not already enabled):
    1. Open the Registry Editor (`regedit`).
    2. Navigate to the following key: `HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramework\v4.0.30319`
    3. Add two new DWORD (32-bit) values:
    `SchUseStrongCrypto` with a value of `1`
    `SystemDefaultTlsVersions` with a value of `1`
    4. Repeat the steps for the following key (for 64-bit systems): `HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\.NETFramework\v4.0.30319`
    5. Restart your computer.

    3. Verify the Web Source's SSL Certificate
Ensure the web source's SSL certificate is valid and trusted by your computer. Sometimes, accessing a web source with an invalid or self-signed certificate can cause this issue. You mentioned that browsers and Excel can access it, but it's worth double-checking, especially if they have different trust stores.
