Plan sheet error on Approval notify

Hi, I am getting this error when the approval is triggered on my IQ Plan sheet:

(This is part of a Trial capacity in Fabric)

The planning sheet has been configured with a text column with individual's email, seperately a Task Status column has been configured:

IF(THIS == 'Submitted', NOTIFY_USER(M_8518803443058922917), "")

I have tried both the scripted (above) and the UI (Approvals) button. Both have the same error pop-up. I believe it is the NOTIFY_USER that is triggering the error because if a value other than "Submitted" is chosen, no error occurs. I have verified the value for "Submitted" is exactly correct (in the formula and the list value)

Any ideas on what might be causing this?

  • Hi VDMT ,

    Looking at your screenshots, the All row has no email in the Budget Prepare-Txt column, but "Allow entry on Totals/Subtotals" is ticked on Task Status. If Submitted gets set on the All row, NOTIFY_USER has nobody to send to, which could explain the generic error.

    Two quick tests. First, change Submitted only on the Digital row and see if the error still appears. Second, try wrapping the formula so it skips blanks, something like IF(AND(THIS == 'Submitted', [Budget Prepare-Txt] <> ""), NOTIFY_USER([Budget Prepare-Txt]), ""), depending on what functions the sheet supports. Unticking totals entry for that column is also worth a try if you only want approvals at the cost centre level.

    If it still fails on the Digital row alone, make sure that email belongs to a user in your tenant and try it on a paid capacity if you can, since notifications may be limited on trials. Also click Copy to clipboard on the error and include it if you raise a ticket. The details there should be more useful than the popup.

    Hi jubinsoni - thanks for the response.

    I tried your version of the formula, but I get the same error. I removed the total/sub-total. Even if I try now, I get the same error.

    I raised a support call with Microsoft for this. Found that if a static email was put on the formula that it did notify. However, if a valid email (from tenant) was on the Text column that it would give an error (stack trace is blank which surprised support agent too)

    Will wait for a fix.

      Hi VDMT, thanks for the update and for raising the support case. That test with a static email versus a tenant email is a really useful finding, so it is worth sharing with the support engineer as a repro. Hope a fix lands soon.
