SharePoint data source - authentication method service principal
Hello,
I see that the authentication method 'service principal' can be used to authenticate to SharePoint Online but it does not seem to work for me to authenticate. My data source is just a List in SharePoint Online.
These are the permissions that I have. Which permissions do I need more to get this working?
Kind regards

Hi naelske_cronos,
The snapshot shows the error message that provided credentials is invalid. Did you used the same type of credentials when you design power bi report and connection to the data source?
AFAIK, they should be matched or these credentials not able to be used and power bi will also notice credentials are invalid.

Hello,
In Power BI desktop it is not possible to use service principal as authentication method, only in Power BI service.
It is working via the other authentication methods like OAuth2 but not via the service principal?
Kind regards

Hello Anonymous,
I have discussed this issue with Microsoft Power BI support and it is a bug that should be looked at from their side.
Kind regards

Hello naelske_cronos ,
Do you have more details regarding this bug ?
Will Microsoft Power BI team fix the Service principal authentication method for a SharePoint connection ? If yes, do we have an idea when ?
Thank you in advance.
Best regards.

Hello,
Is there a solution for this topic?
I am also getting an error (error 400 : the credentials are invalid) while trying to use a principal service to authenticate a semantic model (with a Sharepoint site).
Thanks in advance.
