Problem with setting up link to Fabric in Dataverse
For a client we would like to make use of the Link to Fabric shortcut that is available in Dataverse.
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-apps/maker/data-platform/fabric-link-to-data-platform
However, when clicking on Link to Fabric we get the following:
The client does have an F2 Fabric capacity in North Europe. So yes, the client does have the Fabric capacity in a different region. However, when I look into our own Dataverse and Fabric environment I see that we have it the other way around. We have Fabric in Western Europe and Dataverse in Northern Europe and we have no problem setting up the Link to Fabric shortcut. Even my colleague without a Power BI license can do it.
Also we do have the system administrator role inside dataverse at the client. And the following are all enabled in Fabric:
- users can create Fabric items
- Create workspaces
- Users can access data stored in OneLake with apps external to Fabric.
The Microsoft documentation does say that you need to have the Fabric capacity within the same geographical region, but I do not understand why that isn't a problem in our own environment.
Does anybody have any idea what the problem could be or where to check? I want to be sure to check everything before suggesting the client to get the Fabric Capacity in a different region.
Also, when I click on "Create other Data Links" it states that the environment is located in North Europe.

Hi Johan_DS,
Thanks for sharing the details. According to Microsoft documentation, Link to Fabric requires the Dataverse System Administrator role, Power BI workspace administrator permissions, and a qualifying Fabric capacity in the same Azure geography as the Dataverse environment. Please verify the F2 capacity's region and confirm that the target workspace is assigned to it. Also, check the documented Fabric workspace network security requirements.

Thank you.Hello v-saisrao-msft ,
Thanks for your response. Do you also know where you can check the Azure geography of the Dataverse environement? Because currently it says 2 things at 2 different locations (see screenshots initial postst).
I have the Dataverse System Administrator role and also the workspace on the Fabric F2 capacity. I am an admin on this workspace. Do I still need a Power BI license even though I have access to a Fabric workspace?
Thanks in advance.

Hi
Regarding regions on Dataverse you can check them here:
These are what they call Macro regions:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/macro-regions#macro-region-geography
To find out with more detail which region you need you can try either look at your Dataverse URL for the number and then check against this table:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/new-datacenter-regions
There's also this other way I found in the forum seems kind of hacky but it should work as well:
Fabric Dataverse Link - You need Power BI premium license to continue | Microsoft Fabric CommunityRegarding the license of the account that sets up the link, I believe it needs to have at least a PRO license due to the requirement of being an Admin in the workspace.
