New Browser Tab Opening to Previous or Existing Session

• Open Microsoft Fabric in an InPrivate/Incognito window and check whether the behavior persists.
• Try a different supported browser (such as Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome) to determine whether the issue is browser-specific.
• Clear the browser cache and cookies for the Fabric site, then sign in again.
• Temporarily disable any browser extensions to rule out extension-related interference.
• Check whether the same behavior occurs for other users in your organization.

I think this may be related to Fabric’s newer tabbed navigation experience rather than a browser-session problem.

Fabric now keeps open work items in a horizontal tab bar, and Microsoft documents that opening an item in a new browser tab can preserve the same item and surrounding Fabric context. Because of that, opening another Fabric tab or window may no longer behave like starting a completely separate workspace session. You can read more about the current behaviour in Microsoft’s guidance on using Fabric Home and tabbed navigation.

I have not found a documented Fabric setting that disables this behaviour globally.

For keeping workspaces clearly separated, I would use one of these approaches:

• Open the required workspace directly from its URL rather than duplicating the existing Fabric tab.
• Use separate browser profiles when I need genuinely isolated Fabric contexts.
• Use an InPrivate or Incognito window for a temporary independent session.
• Pin or rename the relevant Fabric tabs so that the active workspace remains obvious.

I would still test another browser or an InPrivate window once, because that helps distinguish the intended Fabric tab experience from a browser-specific session-restoration issue. However, if the same behaviour occurs consistently across browsers, I would not expect clearing the cache to provide a permanent fix.

If this only started recently and there is no option to disable it, I would also consider submitting feedback through Fabric, since the current documentation explains how tab context is preserved but does not appear to expose a preference for always opening a clean Fabric session.

The behaviour is happening to others in the org. 

We only have Edge, no other browser.

Cannot load a 2nd profile.

Starts fresh again if opening in an incognito.

Looks like another victim of enshitification. 

I don't understand how Microsoft can sell an Enterprise product and continually change features and functionality without any kind of testing from the end users.

Bring back on premise SQL Server.

Based on the results shared so far, the behavior is reproducible for multiple users, occurs in the normal Edge session, and opening Fabric in an InPrivate window starts with a fresh session. This confirms that the behavior is not limited to a single user.
