Hi,
When I refresh the data on Power BI Desktop (Import mode), everything works fine. However, the daily refresh on the Service does not produce the correct numbers, even though the refresh history shows everything is fine and no errors. As such, I have to manually publish the report every day.
Any idea how to fix this? Could this be a 'preview' issue?

There is nothing in preview with refreshing data in power BI service. It could be the timing of the scheduled refresh is before or at the same time as the update at the source.

Thank you @AJ . However, the daily auto refresh has been working for a while. It is just all of a sudden it failed to refresh with the correct numbers.
To test it out, I have re-set the daily refresh to be an hour later and I'll see what happens tomorrow.
