Expire Dataset of Usage Metrics Report in Power BI Service

Hi all,

There's an error that I encountered while trying to refresh an outdated usage metrics dataset in Power BI Service :

I have tried to reenter my credentials via the "Edit credentials", but the dataset is still not refreshed yet.

Any ideas?

Hi @Anonymous ,

I misunderstood your problem previously, When you first launch the usage metrics report, Power BI automatically creates a Usage Metrics Report dataset. The usage metrics report relies on that dataset. Power BI then refreshes this dataset daily. Although you can't change the refresh schedule, you can update the credentials that Power BI uses to refresh the usage metrics data.

You may need to resume scheduled refresh if one of the following occurs:

  • The credentials expire
  • You removed the user who first launched the usage metrics report from the workspace where the dataset resides
  • The user who first launched the usage metrics report leaves or is no longer a part of the organization

Note: The Usage Metrics Report dataset contains usage data for the last 30 days. It can take up to 24 hours for new usage data to be imported. You can't trigger a manual refresh by using the Power BI user interface.

Hi,

I think the issue is the dataset is not refreshed after I updated my credentials. As shown above, the last refresh was done in Power BI Service a month ago. It seems like the scheduled refresh wasn't resumed, is there a way to validate that?

Thank you!

Hi @Anonymous ,

Please try:

First, edit your credential

Then re-login

Go back to your dataset and refresh the dataset.

Besides, you can clear your internet browser cache by going signing into Power BI and going to https://app.powerbi.com?alwaysPromptForContentProviderCreds=true . This forces an update of your credentials.

Best Regards,

Jianbo Li

Hi,

Thank you for your response.

Is the Usage Metric Report dataset hidden by default in a workspace?

I'm only able to edit the credentials if i go to Settings > Dataset and look for the dataset, the dataset is not visible in the workspace, hence I am not able to refresh it.
