Capacity is paused

Hello dears,

why the IT department pause the capcity ?

If you're using a Premium workspace, the underlying capacity (A SKU or P SKU) might be paused, deleted, or expired.

it's not working on specific days like today and working on another days

thank you

Unlike Premium capacities, which are depricated on Feb 2025, https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/important-update-coming-to-power-bi-premium-licensing/

Fabric capacities follow pay as you go model. Which means you will pay for the compute power only when you are using it. For the off hours you can turn it off and save money. May be your IT deparment wants to turn them off during off hours.

Hey @ahmedshalabyy12 ,

The capacity might have been paused by the IT department to reduce costs, especially if it's not needed 24/7. When using a Premium (A or P SKU) capacity, it's common for organizations to pause capacity during off-hours, weekends, or days with low usage to save on Azure consumption.

That's why reports or workspaces relying on that capacity may not work on certain days like today but work fine on other days.

You can reach out to the IT team to check the schedule or request to have it resumed if needed.

For Detailed Information:

Manage Premium capacities in Power BI

Pause and resume an Azure Power BI Embedded capacity

Power BI capacity-based SKUs (A, EM, P)

Hi @ahmedshalabyy12,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community, and thanks to @Nasif_Azam, and @tharunkumarRTK for their valuable inputs on this threa

Based on your description, it appears you are working with a Power BI Premium workspace that relies on either an A SKU (Azure-based) or P SKU (Microsoft-managed) capacity. If the workspace works on some days but not others, this often points to the underlying capacity being paused or inactive, possibly due to scheduled automation or cost-saving configurations. Here are a few steps you can take to further investigate and resolve the issue:

  • Check Capacity Status: Ask your Power BI or Azure administrator to verify the capacity status in the Power BI Admin Portal or Azure Portal. If you are using an A SKU, the capacity may be paused automatically outside business hours to optimize costs.
  • Verify Workspace Assignment: In Power BI Service, go to your workspace settings and ensure it’s assigned to an active capacity. If the capacity has been paused, removed, or expired, the workspace will not function properly.
  • Coordinate with Your IT Team: Since this issue seems to occur intermittently, it is worth checking with your IT department to confirm whether the capacity is on a scheduled start/stop cycle or has been paused intentionally.

If you are using a Fabric trial or Premium trial, please ensure that the trial has not expired, as that would also lead to limited access or workspace failures. Helpful Documentation: What is Power BI Premium?
