Running On Premise Gateway on our Windows Server and I find that sometimes one of our guys will login for maintanence and they accidentally close the gateway. There is no minimize function so I'm wondering if this is normal or am I missing something? It doesn't run as a service so if the program is closed, we have to sign back in to maintain the connection.

No, they don't. All they do is close the management app. The gateway service will continue to run.
It doesn't run as a service so if the program is closed, we have to sign back in to maintain the connection.
That is only true for Personal Gateways, not for Standard Gateways. Check your Services entry.
