Introducing the new text slicer in Power BI

Introducing the new text slicer in Power BI

I want to share that the new text slicer is now available in Power BI, located in our main visual gallery. This new functionality opens up more possibilities for users and organizations to leverage how they analyze and present data better.

Enable the Text Slicer
To start using the text slicer, do this:
Go to Options and Settings> Options > Preview features.
Ensure the text slicer visual is selected.
Refresh Power BI with applied changes.

How the Text Slicer Works
The text slicer enables the user to input his specific text. He then specifies which particular data field would be filtered. As soon as one types the text in the slicer's input box, the information will automatically reduce to showing only those data where the text has been located. It is beneficial when dealing with huge lists because speed and accuracy must be delivered quickly on the filter.

Making a Text Slicer View
To visually create a text slicer
Click the text slicer icon in the Visual Gallery on the Build Visual tab in the Visualizations pane. This will place a visual placeholder on the report canvas.
Add a field from the data model into the Field well to enable the text slicer.
Type text in the slicer's input box, click the apply icon, or press enter. It will immediately filter the data set and show the result on the visual.

Advantages of the Text Slicer:

The new text slicer brings this crucial and adjustable filtering tool to Power BI, thus giving a myriad of important benefits: Better User Experience: The slicer of text should provide the user with an easy way to filter input for proper analysis of data. It could provide many options to let users personalize their filtering experience in that sense regarding what they might need and like, thus making it a highly flexible data-handling tool. The text slicer is a great tool for Power BI. It allows one to analyze data more accurately and effectively. Try it out today and see how it enhances your data visualization tools!

Comments

Which update does the text slicer become available? I am using Version 2.131.1203.0 (July 2024)

With the text slicer, are you able to select multiple choices - or are you limited to just one selection point?  We have some large data sets where predictive text would be helpful to move through the high volume of items in the droplist.

Hi @kkishba2 ,

The New Text slicer is available from the Power BI Desktop Version 2.138.782.0 as mentioned in the official Microsoft Power BI updates blog

@kkishba2 currently the text slicer has only one text but the alternative is "Smart Filter by OKViz" in the app source.

Thank you! I will check into the "Smart Filter by OKViz" to see if this resolves my issue.

@saud968 Microsoft should just buy the Smart Filter by OKViz and transform it into a core visual. It has all the options how a standard text slicer should work.

@RHOU Well, there are a lot of other helpful visuals similar to Smart filter by OKViz, but I'm not sure how we get it to the Microsoft team to buy them out. And not every visual creator wants to sell their creation to Microsoft or any other company if you understand what I mean.

i've noted that the new text slicer can search multiple words and it's a great option but actualy it uses "OR" to search the multiple words and it's not limited the selection search

Is there a way to change it to use "AND" to be able to limited the search result?
