Issue with Power BI: "Object reference not set to an instance of an object"

Hello,

I am encountering an issue while using Power BI. The following error message appears:
"Object reference not set to an instance of an object"

Details:

  • Power BI Version: [Mention the version, e.g., Power BI Desktop – October 2024 release].

  • Operating System: Windows 11 Home (Version 24H2, OS Build 26100.2605).

  • System Specifications:

    • Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-10210U CPU @ 1.60GHz - 2.11 GHz.
    • RAM: 8.00 GB (7.76 GB usable).
    • System Type: 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor.
  • Problem Description:
When I try to open the Power BI application, the error message "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" appears, and the application does not launch properly.

  • Steps Taken to Resolve the Issue:

    1. Restarted the computer and tried opening the application again.
    2. Downloaded and installed the latest version of Power BI from both the official website and the Microsoft Store, but the issue persists.
    3. Verified my system meets the application’s requirements.
  • Outcome:
Despite these steps, the error continues to appear whenever I attempt to open the Power BI application.

Questions:

  1. What could be causing this error during the application launch?
  2. Are there any specific troubleshooting steps I should try to resolve this issue?
  3. Could the problem be related to system configuration or missing files?

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Status: Investigating

Hi  @Afraah,

Please ensure that there are no corrupted files in your Power BI installation. Sometimes, reinstalling the application might not replace all corrupted files. then you may run Power BI Desktop as an administrator. Right-click on the Power BI Desktop icon and select "Run as administrator"

According to the previous post in Microsoft Fabric Community, some users have resolved this issue by ensuring that their Excel files are not corrupted and by updating WebView2 to the latest version.
