ESRI map with layer pulled from ArcGIS not showing up in Power BI

I have a ESRI map that pulls from a lay on ArcGIS. Everything works great on the desktop app.

Then I tell the app that I wasnt to include the report and it sometimes shows up correctly.

Then other times it gives me this. I have changed nothing and the help message is pretty much useless. Any idea what is going wrong? When I used a different map that was configured pretty much the same way, everything worked. Is there some sort of limitation on the number of features you can have in a PowerBI ESRI map that is not mentioned in the directions? It seems to be just doing its own thing.

Hi @mbollinger ,

It seems that you are having trouble with displaying an ESRI map with a layer pulled from ArcGIS in Power BI. This could be due to a bug in the current version of ArcGIS for Power BI, or a setting in your Office 365 tenant that controls whether or not ArcGIS for Power BI shows up in Power BI Desktop / Power BI Online. Here are some possible solutions that I found from the web search results:

  • According to this post, there was a bug in the version v1.0.0.110 of ArcGIS for Power BI that prevented some reference layers from loading properly. However, this bug was resolved in the new version that was released in late September or early October 2023. You can check your version of ArcGIS for Power BI by clicking on the About button in the visual’s toolbar. If you have an older version, you can update it by downloading the latest version from the Microsoft AppSource.
  • According to this post, you may need to enable ArcGIS for Power BI in the general settings on Power BI Desktop and Web service. However, this setting may be overridden by your Office 365 administrator, who can control whether or not ArcGIS for Power BI shows up in Power BI Desktop / Power BI Online. You can check with your Office 365 administrator to see if this option is disabled, and if so, request them to enable it for you.

Best regards.

Something is really not working because when I tell PowerBI I want to update the content, this is what it looks like before I commit it. So the map looks right and everything is good to go.

Then I commit it and go to the page and the report "CBG Scores" is nowhere to be found. So not only is the map not showing up, the whole report is not showing up now. What is going on here? I have been putting these kind of maps on the dashboard for around a year now and it appears PowerBI just decided to stop working.
