Which Microsoft products have to be enabled to use Fabric?

Imagine Company A is not using Azure for the company. What services does Company A have to enable to use Fabric? They need to manage users, buy Fabric Capacities and Power BI licenses, manage admin tasks, etc. Which products does Company A need (Fabric, Azure…)? They probably will also use Purview in the future.

Hi @amaaiia
Thanks for using Fabric Community.

To use Microsoft Fabric, Company A would need to enable several services and products. Here’s a high-level overview:

Microsoft Fabric:
This is the primary service Company A would need. Microsoft Fabric is an end-to-end analytics and data platform designed for enterprises that require a unified solution. It encompasses data movement, processing, ingestion, transformation, real-time event routing, and report building. It integrates separate components into a cohesive stack, including Power BI, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory, and more.

Azure Subscription: Even if Company A is not currently using Azure, they would need an Azure subscription to purchase Fabric capacities. The capacities are split into Stock Keeping Units (SKU). Each SKU provides a different amount of computing power, measured by its Capacity Unit (CU) value.

Power BI Licenses:
Power BI is one of the experiences available in Microsoft Fabric. Power BI licenses can be purchased through the Microsoft 365 Admin center or through an Authorized Microsoft License Reseller.

Microsoft 365 Admin Center:
Admins can manage Fabric users by using the Microsoft 365 admin center. Managing users includes adding and deleting users, groups, and admins. You can also manage per user licenses and assign admin roles.

Microsoft Purview:
If Company A plans to use Purview in the future, it’s worth noting that Microsoft Fabric comes with Purview for data governance. Purview can help protect sensitive data across clouds, apps, and devices, identify data risks and manage regulatory compliance requirements.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any further questions.
