Is Fabric object level restriction or role level security coming soon?

Hi Fabricators,

I am working on a data warehouse/ Power BI reporting project for a client using Microsoft Fabric. We are using a live connection from Power BI to a dataset that we created from the lake house.

Everything has been going smoothly until we got to the point of giving access to the end users. Since it is a live connection, we need to provide them with viewership access to the lake house. However, there is no object-level restriction or role-level security available in Fabric, so the report viewers would be able to see the whole chunk of data inside the lake house, even though we need to keep some restrictions.

On the report side, to work around this, we have created multiple reports in Power BI and filtered them on the front end. We then created an app with different audience sets and added the corresponding filtered report to each end-user set.

I understand that Fabric is still not generally available, but I am wondering if there is any plan/roadmap available to add object-level restriction or role-level security in the near future. This is a critical feature for any data warehouse platform, and it is kind of disappointing that it is not yet available in Fabric.

I would be grateful for any information on this topic.

Thank you,
Atma

Hi, Thanks for the Reply,

I saw the release on  OLS and RLS for SQL Endpoint but not for lake house and fabric dataset.

What really happening on my end is, that when I am trying to share a power bi report( that is using fabric data set as backend) with a user, On his side he is getting an error saying the lake house is not shared with him. So when we share the lakehouse with him. What happens is he can see the entire data in the lakehouse, I have added a report-level filter so that he has limitations in seeing the data which is not his. But now he can query and get the data that should be hidden from him.

I hope you understand the problem. If not let me know the comments and I will answer.
