How to change owner of notebook in Lakehouse?

Hi,

Hope you all have nice time! Coming here with one question, which sounds simple, however no explanation in net on that.

I use two workspaces in fabric which I put to development and production stages in deployment pipeline. Both workspaces consist of lakehouse, notebooks, semantic model, report and warehouse. Data pipeline was set up, I was ready to deploy to production and then I received message on deploy "This deployment will overwrite some items in the destination workspace. You must be the owner of any items that will be overwritten.".

Notebooks in prod were created by another user, so he is the owner. We tried to find the way to change the ownership of those notebooks but without luck. How to do that?

Thanks in advance for your answers!

Hi @SylwesterNowak

Apologies for the issue that you are facing here.

Currently, changing the ownership name directly for a notebook in Microsoft Fabric is not possible. The transfor or take over Notebook ownership is not supported at this time.

However, a workaround that might help you depending on your specific needs:

Exporting and re-importing the notebook:

  • You can export the notebook content from your workspace. This will create a ZIP file containing all the notebook's cells and code.
  • Then, you can import the notebook into a new workspace under the desired username. This will create a new notebook with the same content but under the new owner's name.

Note: That this approach will lose any existing permissions or sharing settings, and you'll need to set them up again in the new workspace.

I request you please share the feedback on our feedback channel .

Have there been any updates simplifying the process of changing the ownership of notebooks/pipelines within Fabric? or do i still need to make use of the outlined workaround?

Hi,
I didn't found a solution. Do you have one after reaching out to internal team? I still don't see the option and any answer about it in Google. Is it possible that this option just doesn't exist?
