Fabric trial activated in Fabric capacity workspace but can't create some objects(datalakes,Gen2,..)

Hi all,

sorry for the inconveniences but I need to ask the next.

Trying to do "AI Skills Challenge: Microsoft Fabric" it is offered to do the next exercise. As you can see at the end of this message, you will see that I am already using a Microsoft Fabric trial (1) and I have access to a workspace with Fabric capacity (2) where I have the role of administrator(3).  When I go to Fabric home page, I see 3 "products" (more below in 4):
   - 2 of them (Power BI, Data activator) since the beginning.
   - 1 of them, Synapse Data warehouse, only when I was granted admin access to the workspace with fabric capacity.

If I click on the latter , then on mentioned workspace and finally I filter by "Dataflow Gen 2", I can see several "objects" of this type (more below in 5). The problem is that I can not neither create a new Gen2 (if I click on "New Item" button, purple arrow in 5, I can see gen1 objects but not gen2-> more in 6 below) nor edit an existing Gen2 object (if I click on any Gen2 object, an example in orange arrow in 5, an error message appears -> more in 7 below). Could you please advice me what to do to be able to create new Gen2 objects or at least to be able to edit existing ones? I would prefer to create new ones as I think that would solve also the fact that I can not create other objects like dataLakes (complete list of objects that I can create inside this workspace in 8 below).

Thanks in advance to all and sorry for the inconveniences.

Error: You cannot edit this dataflow because it is owned by another user. Consider leveraging the "Take over" feature from the Dataflow Settings page if you would like to take ownership.

Hi @JaimeSG

If I understand your question correctly it's 2 sided,

1. you can't create new Fabric items

2. you can't edit existing dataflows

For the issue that you can't create Fabric items, can you ask your tenant admin to check the following Microsoft Fabric Tenant setting (in the Admin Portal): Admin Portal --> Tenant Settings --> Users can create Fabric items

Let them check that this setting is enabled and you surely are part of the assigned security group if there is one assigned.

For the 2nd issue, can you try to "Take Over" the dataflow ownership. Then you should be able to edit the existing workflow.

I hope this helps

Kind regards

Hi @olivs , many thanks for your answer.

Yes, those are the topics:
About 1st topic, I jave just asked the tenant administrator, but there are other objects created by other people. I do not know if maybe it was activated in that moment and then it was disactivated. Could it be that there is a maximun number of objects that can be created?
About second topic, who can see that menu and how to access it? I will show you the menu I see being administator (I guess workspace administrator) clicking on

For your additional question about the maximum number of items in a Fabric Workspace, you are right, at this moment, there is a limitation of 1000 objects in one Fabric workspace.

Please find the link the Microsoft Documentation about the current limitations of workspaces below:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fabric/get-started/workspaces#considerations-and-limitations

Hi @olivs, about second topic I saw how to do it (I share details in screenshot at the end of this message). Now I will investigate if I can save the gen2 with other name (I guess impossible without modifying anything in the tenant setup reading your answer to first topic) and how I can edit the gen2 object to delete all it has (connections included) and create the ones I need for the exercise. Many thanks 🙂
