Hi,
I am getting an error "Invalid credentials" while creating a pipeline to connect to on-premises files. In username, I'm giving usename, which is displayed after giving whoami command and password as blank because I never give any password for my PC. Please refer to the screenshots below -

Sorry everyone, error message was misleading, so I got confused. Since, I had not given password to my pc, so I was using blank. But, when I created password for my PC and used it, my problem resolved.

Hi @AnuragYadav ,
Thanks for the reply from lbendlin .
The error message indicates that the data credentials information is invalid. The username I'm using for testing is “whoami” and the password is the host's login password.
You need to configure the data gateway first when connecting to the local file on the service side.
For more information on how to configure gateway see this official document:
Add or remove a gateway data source - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
If you have not pre-configured the gateway, the following screen will appear when you enter the file path in pipeline.
If you have pre-configured the gateway, the following screen will appear when you enter the same file path in the pipeline as in the gateway.
Although I can now connect to the local folder without any problems, I get an error when using it. I'm using lakehouse as the data write destination, my local folder has csv files and excel files, I can't write the data smoothly, it will say formatting error and need to staging the data outside error, when test connection it will say I don't have access to this folder even though I've already configured the gateway. I'm not sure if this is an individual error on my part, you can run a test to check if it works.
I have a workaround to write the data inside the local folder for use by lakehouse and that is using Dataflow Gen2. In Dataflow Gen2 select Get Data as Folder and enter the same path as in the gateway configuration.
After a successful connection, all the files present in the folder will be displayed, with the contents in binary format.
Click on this binary to expand it.
After successfully reading the csv file, the data can be displayed without any problem.
Set destination to lakehouse.
After successful publish, we can see the data of the csv file stored in the local folder in lakehouse.
If you have any other questions please feel free to contact me.

Hi @v-huijiey-msft,
Thanks for detailed explanation, but I am not using Power BI service, rather I've installed microsoft "on-premises data gateway" on my machine.
I'm using it, while creating pipeline. Moreover, I'm also using the username “whoami” and the password is the host's login password. Hope, it clears my problem.
The pipeline lives in the cloud. It has no idea at all what "C:\Users" means, or how to get there.
You specified an On Premises gateway. Do you really want the Azure service looking at the hard disk in your PC? Surely not!
Consider placing your data into a cloud share, like a SharePoint folder.
