PowerBI pbip files are 1kb and wipe all data/visuals

Hey everyone! Since the newest update in April all of my pbip files are always 1kb.  It's only happening to pbip files and not pbix files as shown below. The pbip files when reopened have no content on them, it's like opening a completely new file despite whatever data or data visualizations are added to it.

Does anyone know what's going on? Everything is still saying 1KB despite our best efforts to correct it.

Hi @catwilkerson ,

When saving a job as a Power BI Project (PBIP), the report and semantic model item definitions are saved as a single plain text file in a simple and intuitive folder structure. As a result, the PBIP file is a structure of multiple folders containing multiple files, which are smaller in size on their own.

When you save as a project, Power BI Desktop saves the report and semantic model items as folders, each of which contains text files defining the items. You will see the following:

vkaiyuemsft_0-1715654312493.png

<project name>.SemanticModel
A collection of files and folders representing the Power BI semantic model. It contains some of the most important files that you might work with, such as model.bim.

<project name>.Report
A collection of files and folders that represent Power BI reports.

Please check the paths and completeness of these two folders to ensure that the pbip files can be opened correctly. Refer to the documentation for more details:Power BI Desktop projects (PBIP) - Power BI | Microsoft Learn .

If your Current Period does not refer to this, please clarify in a follow-up reply.

Best Regards,

Clara Gong
