Install Self hosted Integration Runtime for Microsoft Fabric

I have been using self-hosted integration runtime that I installed from Azure Data Factory but I never find the instruction or guidance to install the SHIR for MS Fabric without Azure Data Factory. Is this a feature in the enhancement list or I just couldn't find where it is?

Hi @jerryum1

The ability to install a self-hosted integration runtime (SHIR) for Microsoft Fabric without using Azure Data Factory is not currently available. Currently, most of the available documentation and guidance focuses on using SHIR with Azure Data Factory or Azure Synapse.

You may need to continue to use Azure Data Factory to set up and manage your SHIR.

You can also consider using a gateway.

Note that while both are used to transfer data between on-premises and the cloud, SHIR is more focused on data integration and large-scale data processing, while on-premises gateways are better suited for real-time data access and integration of business applications.

Hi @jerryum1,

The on-premise gateway for MS Fabric is different from the SHIR that you required for Azure Data Factory. Within MS Fabric, this is called 'on-premises data gateway'. You can find the instructions to setup the gateway and on-premise data sources over here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fabric/data-factory/how-to-access-on-premises-data.

The documentation to install the gateway on your server can be found here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/data-integration/gateway/service-gateway-install

Kind regards,

Fabian
