How to Filter Azure AD Group Table in Power BI for Specific Group?

Hello everyone,

I'm facing a challenge in Power BI while working with Azure Active Directory data. I've successfully imported the Azure AD 'group' table into Power BI using the Active Directory connection. However, I'm encountering difficulties in filtering this table to locate a specific group and extract user details from it.

My process so far:

1. Imported data from the Active Directory option in Power BI.
2. In the Navigator window, expanded my domain tree and double-clicked on 'group', which led me to the Power Query Editor displaying a list of all groups.
3. Attempted to filter for a specific group by using the 'distinguishedName' column in the Power Query Editor: I clicked the down-arrow, selected 'Text Filters' > 'Contains...', and entered the group name. Note: I ensured the case sensitivity of the group name.

After applying the filter, I received a message stating "This table is empty." This suggests that either the group isn't present in the loaded data or I'm missing something in my approach.

Could anyone provide guidance on:

1. How to properly filter the Azure AD group table in Power BI to find a specific group?
2. Any best practices or alternative methods to achieve this?

Active Directory connector returns a list of Active Directory domains in the same forest as the specified domain or of the current machine's domain if none is specified.

To get Azure Active Directory data in Power BI Desktop, you can use Microsoft Graph API. The information from Azure AD is stored in Microsoft Graph, which means that you would need to create a custom connector to access it .

A colleague of mine brought up an interesting point regarding the type of group we are trying to access. It seems that we are dealing with cloud groups, and the Active Directory connector I'm using in Power BI might not support these types of groups. I'm now considering if there's an alternative connector that can handle cloud groups or if using the Microsoft Graph API would be a viable solution to retrieve this data. Has anyone faced a similar situation or can offer insights on a suitable connector or approach for handling cloud groups in Power BI? Any guidance would be much appreciated!
