unable to activate alert from Power BI visual
Error message:
Data Activator cannot trigger actions from this visual because the "for each" dimension is a composite of multiple dimensions
The data source for the visual is a single table hybrid streaming dataset. No idea what to make of this error message.
Slightly unrelated side question: I was planning to use Data Activator to monitor the absence of an event (like a dead man switch). That seems not to be part of the current design?

Yes, you can do that. Note that alerts are connected to the dataset, not the visual. So, if you delete a visual, it won't delete any alerts you have created from that visual. To delete your alerts, open them in Data Activator and delete the triggers there.

Hello @lbendlin
Re message: this message means that your visual has more than 1 dimension. For example, a visual that displays sum of sales by store and product has 2 dimensions (store and product). At present, Data Activator only supports visuals with 1 dimension, hence the message. We are planning to add support for multi-dimensional visuals in future. In the meantime I'll see if we can come up with a better phrasing for the message.
Re absence of event: it's not possible at the moment, but we are planning to support this. It is a common request.
Regards
JAmes

Any news about this update? Is there a workaround for now?

I assume I can create an alert based on a simpler visual (did that) and then can throw away the visual?

That means allowing users to create alerts from visuals is a misleading UX 🙂

Yes I understand your point, and the UX for alert management is something we are thinking carefully about as we continue to enhance the Data Activator preview.
