In this session, we'll go over all the features that make Tabular Editor a must for any data model developer.
Calculation groups are great for extracting logic in one central place instead of placing it on each measure. This abstraction means that you might even want to use the same calculation group on different data models, but then you might need to change some parts of the Calculation Items. Tabular Editor C# Scripts are a great way to make this process a breeze and give you super-powers! In this session we'll see some simple calculation groups and the process to create a macro that builds it with some customization on run-time of the script. Do you have a slow Power BI report? This session will equip you with the knowledge to address the issue of slow Power BI reports. Whether you are just starting on your Power BI Journey or an experienced Power BI developer these tools enhance your development and analysis of your data. This session will cover connecting to Power BI Desktop, Power BI Premium Workspaces, and Fabric Workspaces to meet you where you currently are. DAX Studio and Tabular Editor are part of the study guide for the DP-600 exam for Fabric, so this is the perfect time to start learning how to put them to good use. The first tool we will look at is DAX Studio. Its strength is being able to analyze your data separately from Power BI and Fabric. You can use it to quickly gather statistics about multiple semantic models. Has a user reported that one of the reports is running slow? You can use DAX Studio to do DAX performance tuning to make it faster. The second tool is Tabular Editor 2. It gives you the ability to check to see if your models are following best practices. You can make changes to your models whether they are running in Power BI Desktop, Power BI Premium, or Fabric Workspaces. With Tabular Editor you can use scripts to automate changes that if done manually could take days. These are just some of the topics we will cover as we learn how valuable these tools can be. This session will have the greatest benefit to someone new to DAX Studio and Tabular Editor regardless of where you are on your Fabric journey.107Views0likes0CommentsOklahoma Power BI & Fabric User Group In-Person Tulsa May 1, 2025

We all write our codes in a proper format so that readability and understanding of codes become easy. While working with POWER BI, we use DAX Expressions to write our measures and calculated columns. We know that formatting is not required in DAX. Itโs normal to see DAX expressions that span over 10 to 20 -lines or more, depending on the complexity and requirements. Sometimes we ignore DAX format as it is time-consuming, and we need to press ALT+ENTER for the new line, which is out of habit for all of us. There is too much ambiguity, and a lack of official specification makes it even harder to comprehend. Whenever I am working with Power BI, I use the following technique to measure it.20KViews7likes3CommentsBuilding Field Parameters using Tabular Editor 2
Hi all I'm trying to build Field Parameters in Tabular editor 2. As shown here: https://p3adaptive.com/completing-the-set-up-field-parameters-using-tabular-editor/ Issue is that I don't get any columns when I have added the dax code for the calculated table. I'm pretty sure code is correct I've even generated it using desktop and pasted it to be sure.Solved5.3KViews0likes6CommentsRefer to a Calculated Measure in Tabular Editor inside a Calculation Item Expression
Hi All, Is there a way to refer to a "Calculated Measure" while we write an expression of a "Calculation Item" in Tabular Editor ? I am trying to build a calculation where I need a "Specific Text" to filter one of the columns in the Dates Table. I already built the the required text and stored as a "Calculated Measure" in the Tabular Editor. Is there a way I can use that as filter argument to another Calculation Item? e.g. In my Calculation Group named "TimeCals" "Calculated Measure A" refers to "XYZ" I need to use the above as follows: Calculate( Selectedmeasure(), Removefilters(DatesTable), DatesTable[Column_A]='TimeCalcs'[Calculated Measure A]3.2KViews0likes5CommentsTabular Editor Format String Expression help
Hi. I'm new to Tabular Editor and calculation groups, and I'm wondering if I might get some advice. I have a table containing a dimension that controls dynamic measure selection in my PBIX. It looks like this: IF(ISCROSSFILTERED('Measure Dimensions'[Dimension]), SWITCH(TRUE(), VALUES('Measure Dimensions'[Dimension]) = "Accepted Sum",[Accepted Amount], VALUES('Measure Dimensions'[Dimension]) = "Expected Sum",[Expected Ask Amount], VALUES('Measure Dimensions'[Dimension]) = "Ask Sum",[Ask Amount], VALUES('Measure Dimensions'[Dimension]) = "Accepted Count",[Accepted Ask Count], VALUES('Measure Dimensions'[Dimension]) = "Expected Count",[Expected Ask Count], VALUES('Measure Dimensions'[Dimension]) = "Ask Count",[Asks Made Count], BLANK() ),BLANK() ) I followed some online tutorials to build out a Time Intelligence calculation group in Tabular Editor (TE). One of my takeaways there was that the format set for the calculation items in TE overrides the format set on the measure in the PBIX; this is fine given my current use case. Where I'm at now is setting the format for the SELECTEDMEASURE() based on the name of the selected measure from my measure dimension table. So, if it's a count, the format should be (I think) "0,0;-0,0", and if it's a sum, it should be "$0.00;-$0.00". Can I accomplish this via the Format String Expression in the Expression Editor in TE? If so, do I have to explicitly add the same DAX to the Format Expression for each of my calculation items? Thanks for any tips you can pass long!Solved7KViews0likes4CommentsTabular Editor with PBIRS
Hi, I've installed Tabular Editor (2.17) and am trying to use with Power BI Report Server (May 2021 release). Other posts on the these forums suggest enabling 'enhanced metadata format' within 'preview features', but my version of PBIRS cannot access these. Am I missing something, or is Tabular Editor not compatible with PBIRS? ThanksSolved3KViews1like2CommentsCan Tabular Editor 3 read parameter values?
Does anyone know if Tabular Editor is able to read parameter values from the model? I am creating a Power BI model that is made up primarily of parameter values that interact with each other. There are no data tables in the model other than a list of years. I like to write DAX in Tabular Editor but it doesn't seem to read SELECTEDVALUE when I have a slider selection in the model. For example, I have a measures like this: Total Gross Square Feet Value = SELECTEDVALUE ( 'Total Gross Square Feet'[Total Gross Square Feet] , 999) and Cost/SF Level 1 Value = SELECTEDVALUE ( 'Cost/SF Level 1'[Cost/SF Level 1], 100 ) So I write a another measure that multiplies the two together: Cost Level 1 = [Total Gross Square Feet Value] * [Cost/SF Level 1 Value] If I run this in Tabular Editor, and put the result in { }, it does not return a value, but it works fine in PBI. So, I am just wondering if there's a way to get TE to read the parameter values, or if that's not possible. Thanks in advance (BTW, I'm using TE3)Solved1.3KViews0likes2Comments
