Hi, I get the following message when I connect to our on-prem SQL database with PowerBI or SSAS: Encryption Support We were unable to connect to the data source using an encrypted connection. To access this data source using an unencrypted connection, click OK So, of course, clicking OK helps and I can connect to the database but I want to get rid of this message or at least understand the consequences of clicking this OK button. I was told, all our connections are secured, but reading this message I'm not so sure As mentioned, everything is on prem and protected by firewall. Authentication is via active directory/Windows. Connecting to the sql server via report server does work without any problem/warning, or does clicking the OK button also surpress any warning on the report server side? thank you!Solved17KViews0likes4CommentsCan not connect to SQL from VM
Hi All, I have Power BI desktop installed on virtual machine with Static IP. That IP is whitelisted at clients SQL server (sqlexpress). Auth is basic and I have user and password. No matter what I try I cant connect to the db and view they created. What am I missing? Do I need to whitelist any other IP. The idea is to have gateway on VM and have it refresh the report from their SQL server. Thank you for any help, I am new to this!Solved4.7KViews0likes7CommentsError while connecting PostGres to Power BI

Hi all, I know in order to deploy Power BI Report Server in production, I can get the PBIRS license via Power BI Premium OR SQL Server EE with SA. Assuming I am going for PBI Premium P1 SKU. 1. Do I need to buy any sort of SQL Server license? I have gone through a lot of discussions and articles, some say yes some say no, it's kind of confusing. 2. Based on my understanding, if I got the P1 SKU, it basically comes with a limited use-right of database server, which can be used to host my Power BI Report Server? But in the hardware and software requirement document, it says an SQL server is required to host Power BI Report Server, so which one is correct? Quoted from Power BI whitepaper "The use of Power BI Report Server does not require a separate SQL Server license unless you intend to use other components such as the SQL Server database engine or SQL Server Integration Services. A limited-use rights database engine comes with Power BI Report Server for hosting the Report Server catalog and temprary databases." Appreciate your advice.Solved3.4KViews0likes3CommentsPower BI Report Server Disaster Recovery
We have Power BI Report Server set up at our organization. We are currently using the May 2021 version and have it installed on the same server where SQL Server is installed (where the ReportServer databases are located). In SQL Server, the Power BI Report Server database has a daily full backup and hourly transaction log backups. I would like to enquire about Disaster Recovery. In the event of a server crash, would we be able to do a new install of Power BI Report Server on another server and then restore the Power BI Report Server database? Would the folder structure and permissions also be recovered? What are the best practices for disaster recovery for Power BI Report Server?3KViews0likes1CommentPowerBI Gateway log sql

Hi, Does anyone know or have experience in running PBIRS on HA but using Always On Basic Availability Groups from SQL Standard license. I've read in "basic" one of the limitation is "Support for one availability database" in the Availablity Group. I saw somewhere PBIRS has two databases - main Report Server and the Report Server Temp db. Does it mean you have to have two AG in SQL? Does this cause an issue or would we have to use Enterprise version of Always-On? Thanks in advanced.2.1KViews0likes1CommentPower BI Report Server - Premium license and SQL License
Hi All, Our company has procured PowerBI Premium (P1) and would like to install PowerBI reporting server, do we need to pay for a SQL licence to acheive this installation? As SQL database is a pre-requisite of PowerBI Reporting Server how could the power BI reporting server be considered included in premium pricing if you still have to pay for a SQL license (where you don't need it for anything else)?
