sql server report server
8 TopicsRedshift -> Power BI OR Redshift -> SSAS Tabular -> Power BI?
We want to host Power BI on premise inside AWS. Our unique datasource will be one flattened table in Reshift Some of us want to load the Redshift data into an SSAS Tabular model and report through Power BI using the SSAS model as a datasource. It seems to me that it would be simpler to load the data directly into Power BI rather than through SSAS since both are Vertipaq engines. I suppose an entreprise license would cover both Power BI Report Server and SSAS... Are there any advantages/disadvantages in either approach? Running on-premise Power BI in a highly regulated environment, security scans flagged the Public security group as a vulnerability and we are looking for work arounds to pass the audit. I'm having a hard time finding any information regarding the usage of the Public security group and the effects if we removed the group. Short of just removing it and seeing how the system responds, does anyone have any suggestions or experience with disabling or removing the Public security group?664Views0likes2CommentsSSAS Tabular Model Process - Low Memory Error (Standard Edition)
This is the environment I work with: Microsoft SQL Server 2017 Standard Edition (64-bit) One database engine instance with 3 databases One Analysis Services instance with 4 databases (Tabular model, average size of each database 3.9 gb) Database engine and ssas are on same server. Server has 256gb ram; 80gb allocated to database engine, 60 gb allocated to etl tool. I read, if SQL Server is Standard Edition, it will assign a limited memory (15gb) to analysis service database. Also I can not create a new partition for one table. I wanted to create multiple partitions for one table and refresh/process only partition which has hot data. But I couldn't do that. So unfortunately, I have to full process for each tables. If there is an option to achieve this? Here are my steps to process: When I try to deploy ssas tabular model via Visual Studio, it throws "low memory" error. I have 10 tables in my tabular model, so I filtered table queries to "select top 10". After that I deployed the model successfully. After first step, I edited and removed "top 10" part from each tables partition in SQL Server Management Studio. I extracted full process script for each partitions, created a linked server between database and ssas instance. I created cursor to process partition of 10 tables. But I got an error "low memory". Here is an example of process a partition. DECLARE @MyScript NVARCHAR(MAX) = '{"refresh":{"type":"full","objects":[{"database":"Dwh_Reports","table":"Fact Sales","partition":"Par_Fact_Sales"}]}}' EXEC (@MyScript) AT SSAS To sum up, my questions; I have 4 databases on my ssas instance. That means, per instance uses 15gb memory and i have to allocate 60gb memory to ssas? My ssas instance configuration is default, I didn't change anything; Memory \ LowMemoryLimit -> Value : 60 Memory \ TotalMemoryLimit -> Value : 80 Memory \ VertiPaqMemoryLimit -> Value : 60 Memory \ VertiPaqPagingPolicy -> Value : 1 Do I have to change this configurations?3.2KViews0likes2CommentsDoes SSRS 2017 Support Power BI Reports?
Hello I have installed SQl Server 2017 along with SSRS with the relative SQL17 Product Key. Does SSRS Support Power BI Reports? When I am trying to upload a report via power bi desktop to the report server. I am getting the following error: “We couldn’t find a Power BI Report Server at this address” I can confirm my Reporting Services is configured correclt and I can access Web Server and Web URL properly.1.6KViews0likes1CommentTechnical Preview of Power BI Reports in SQL Server Reporting Services
Just had a chance to play with the Technical Preview of Power BI Reports in SQL Server Reporting Services. You can set up the VM yourself or download the updated Virtual Machine from Azure Marketplace. I set up my own Virtual Machine and what you need is an instance of SQL Server 2016 or SQL Server vNext CTP v1.1. Also install Analysis Services Tabular or Multi-dimensional mode and sample database for the same. Note: The preview version supports only Power BI Dashboards connected to Analysis Services on-premises otherwise you will get the following error. It comprises of 3 files PBIDesktopRS.msi PBIDesktopRS_x64.msi SQLServerReportingServices.msi Install the SQL Server Report Services and use the SSRS Preview Configuration Manager to create the Report Server Database. Note: You will be seeing Create Database button in the screenshot similar to the above instead of Change Database. The above screenshot was taken once the Database was created. Install the Power BI Desktop for Reporting Services 64-bit version and create a Power BI Report connected to your Analysis Services Database. Upload your new Power BI Report created using the Preview version of Power BI Desktop to the SSRS Portal and try navigating to the report. As you can see from the above screenshot, Power BI report opens within the SSRS Portal Browser window.Solved4.3KViews1like1CommentProblems wiht the configuration of sql-cube in visual studio for power bi report
HY guys, I hope anyone can help me with my issue. My task is it to creat a Power BI Report on the Power BI Report Server with a "live connection" to an SSAS. So far, so good, but my problem is the right configuration of the sql-cube or maybe the Data Source View in visual studio. If anyone know Power BI Report Client you know what I mean If I say you can't do anything in this client only click the tables and mesures to creat a report. But you can't make relationships or go in the table to edit them. Its very tricky I think - so I hope someone has the same issue like me and had found a solution. On the picture you can see two reports from Power PI Report Client. On of them show the rigth sharing of the columns. The other one show me the names of the columns which I want for a good report but not the rigth sharing. I try to make relationsships in visual studio, to edit the mesure from "sum" to "count row", to edit the properties of the single attribute and so on. But nothing helps... So maybe someone of you can help me and know my problem? I see forward to solve this issue quick with your help :) Greetz Kathrin1.7KViews0likes2CommentsCan we replace SQL Server Report Services with Power BI Report Server
Please understand, I am NOT talking about Power BI Report vs. SQL Server Report. Can I use my legacy SSRS reports and the Power BI reports both on the Power BI Report and STOP using the SQL Server Reporting Services? In other words, can I completely replace the SQL Server reporting server with the Power BI reporting server? Thank you5KViews0likes5Comments
