Hi I have developed a customised report for tracking the usage of my original dashboard. the tracking report includes few labels from report usage metrics and few from the other tables available in SQL database. is there a way to to push Usage metrics report data to SQL database on a scheduled period of time. so that i can merge both tables in my tracking report. as of now i am doing this manually by exporting the underlying data of views in usage metrics report. any suggestion or alternate is most welcome. Hi, In our company we want to set-up a deployment startegy, we have three Power bi report server environment (dev, test, prod) . we just use power bi desktop and Power BI report server . We will be using direct query sql server, my question is that we should set-up the data source each time we change the environment. we use the powershell command Write-RsRestCatalogItem to upload the report. I was wondering if there is a way that username and password of the sql db will be transmitted when the user publish from power bi desktop to power bi report server. and from the power bi report server to the different environment thanks641Views0likes1CommentReport Refreshing Problem - SQL Server Database
My report was connected to a SQL database with "import" method. It extract data from a stored procedure with an "EXEC spXXXXXX" syntax. I have set a "Scheduled refresh" for 8 times per day. However, when my computer was shut off and SQL Server Management Studio offline, my Power BI report cannot refresh and the scheduler would automatically turned off. In order to keep this report update, I have to keep the SQL Server Management Studio online every morning, somtime I refresh the dataset manually. The error message said "Your data gateway (personal mode) is offline or couldn't be reached." Any solution to this problem?Solved1KViews0likes2CommentsScheduled refresh is disabled due to no credentials for at least one data source - SQL server
Hi, I got a report which have a source on SQL server. When updating data in Power Bi Desktop it works properly, when trying to refresh on published report, it doesn't work - system show information: "Data source error Scheduled refresh is disabled due to missing credentials for one or more data sources. To restart the refresh, go to the settings page for that dataset and enter credentials for all data sources. Then reactivate scheduled refresh. Hi, My dashboard works online, but after download .pbix I cannot open it on PowerBI desktop. I have set a gateway to the SQL server for powerBI online. Here is the error message on desktop: “A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - No such host is known.);No such host is known. The exception was raised by the IDbConnection interface.” If anyone can help thanks a lot. P.S. Happy new year!Solved1.2KViews0likes2CommentsBest Option for Power BI Data Repository
The current Finance role that I am in involves standardizing reports for a wide audience to use. I have developed multiple Power BI reports that others are using, and I want to have a data repository for all current and future Power BI reports. The current location of my data is on my personal computer, but I want the data to be available for other analysts to grab when they want to develop their own Power BI reports/analysis. Unfortunately, I cannot connect directly to SAP HANA (IT will now allow it) but instead have to query the data out of SAP HANA using Analysis for Microsoft Excel and connect to flat files/workbooks that hold the data. I am currently trying to decide on the best location to house the data for the Power BI reports, and I am currently looking into using SharePoint, SQL database, a shared server, or Azure. I think Azure is the least likely option due to cost and the required involvement of IT, but I still want to include it as an option, nonetheless. Is there someone that can give the pros and cons of each (to use as a data repository) for the organization’s Power BI reports? I have never used SQL or Azure as a data connection in Power BI, so any information would be helpful. It is just me that will be maintaining this data repository, so I am trying to keep it simple but efficient. Ideally, I would not be adding a week’s working hours as a database administrator on top of my current role. Below are what I have so far as my options: SharePoint- This is the option I am leaning towards mostly as of now. Pros -It would not require an on-premises data connection for Power BI Service. -Can use a macro to refresh the queries held in each excel workbook that would be held on SharePoint and then refresh the reports in Power BI Service -The team I work for manages the SharePoint site for the organization -It would not require additional cost unless we start to get close to the storage capacity of our SP site Cons -Takes a long time to bring data into Power BI Desktop and slower refresh connecting to an online data source -Can potentially be a lot of excel workbooks and folders SQL database Pros -Can use Select statements within Power BI reports to gather only the data I would need instead of pulling in an entire dataset (Not a huge benefit I think but a benefit, regardless) -Additional capabilities in Power BI because of connection to database? (Direct Query?) -Can create relationships between datasets (Not sure if I would use/need this feature) Cons -Would have to use an on-premises data connection for Power BI Service. Would maybe require a virtual machine to run scheduled refreshes. -Would require the skill and time to manage the database Shared Server Pros -Would be faster than using SharePoint (Online data repository) Cons -Would have to use an on-premises data connection for Power BI Service. Would maybe require a virtual machine to run scheduled refreshes. Azure- Do not know too much about this option. Pros -Can handle a lot of data (More than a SQL db I believe) -Additional capabilities with Power BI? -Would I need an on-premises data connection in Power BI Service for this, since the data is housed in the cloud? Cons -Most complex solution -Costly -Would most likely require assistance of ITSolved13KViews0likes13Comments
