Hi everyone! I'm working on implementing a specific security requirement in our Power BI Report Server. I need to create a custom security role where administrators can perform all their regular administrative tasks but cannot access or view the actual content of reports and files. Essentially, they should be able to: Manage server properties Handle security settings Manage jobs and schedules Configure data sources Set up subscriptions Move or Delete report But they should not be able to: View report content Access uploaded files See the data within reports I have already tried creating some custom roles, selecting among the various possibilities even the simple report management role. But this implicitly includes the ability to view the report itself. thank's in advance, MarcoSolved832Views0likes1CommentAcces Folder permission
Hi, It's the first time I´m working with PBI Report Server... I need to create a folder, upload a .pbix and allow only 3 user to access the folder. Do I need to do somethin else? Thanks in advanceSolved5.3KViews0likes3Commentssecurity roles not working
I have not yet added any security to the PBI Report Server so only the default BULITIN\Administrators is available on the site level, folder level and report level. However, users who can connect to the Report Server URL can access all the PBI reports. I was expecting user access to be restricted until the role-based security was assigned. Why without any security can users access the reports on the server?Solved1.7KViews0likes2CommentsHide reports or pages to users
Hello, I need very important help about a report server instance. This server is used by a lot of people. They all open a report where RLS allow them to see only some data. I have some special users who must see some more information, completely hidden to the previous "not-special" ones, who must not even know they exist. So, I think I have 2 choices: I create only a report for everybody where some of the pages are hidden to the common users and are visible only to the special ones I create a separated report with the information reserved for the special users. I don't think the first one is possible, I read I can't hide pages to users within a report. So, I think I need to choose the second one, but I don't know how to hide the report to the common users. They must not know it exists. I'd hear any other proposal with pleasure, of course. It's a do-or-die aspect I need to fix. Thank you so much for your help. Hi, In PBI Report Server, I need to give someone permissions to Manage Row Level Security on a report, but I don't want them to be able to manage the other Security for the report itself. I have tried putting them in a Security Role with the 'Set security for individual items' Task but this allows them to manage both Row Level Security and also the Security of who can access the report. This means they can remove the BuiltIn\Administrators from having access to the report. I'd like to prevent that while still allowing them to manage which of their users can see which rows of data. How is this possible? Thanks.658Views0likes0CommentsReport Server: how to edit/delete user rights via relational database
Hi all, we have the following problem on our report server: it exists a report where different users have only the security role "Browser" on it. No one can change or delete this report, because the rights of the administrators were removed by mistake. Is it possible to change the RoleID via relational database of the report server? We saw the table PolicyUserRole and SecData on the database, but we don't know where we should modify it and how it works? An additional question: How can we avoid such a scenario in the future? Administrators should always have the rights to access and modify a report, even if the rights are deleted. We hope that someone can help us. Our organization would like to allow certain power users the ability to down load or "edit in Power BI Desktop" on some reports. We do not want any users (other than admins) to be able to upload or publish reports to the Power BI Report Server. I couldn't find any security role that would allow for download, but prevent uploading of reports. Is there an option for that? I find the security roles to be very limited and would like more granularity. Hopefully more options to download (properly!) as a pdf, analyze in Excel, etc will be added to the Report Server.1KViews0likes1CommentIssues with Security Roles
We've just upgraded from August 2018 to January 2019 Report Server. In the older version anyone with a "Publisher" role was able to publish a PBIX and create Folders and these new objects inherited security. A "Publisher" could not assign Security Roles. It appears that the Jan 2019 version has broken this logic and now someone with either "Publisher" or "Content Manager" role can assign security. This is a serious issue. It is also possible for a "Content Manager" to assign "Content Manager" permissions so security could quickly become an issue. I have configured PBIRS with custom secuirty and by default give all users who authenticate Browse role to the home page. Unforturnately they cannot set reports to favorites. I want to create a custom Browser role and add the ability to add a report to their favorites but I cannot find out what box to check. Below are default setting for the Browser role in PBIRS. Which one(s) should be selected to allow a user to add a report to the favorites?788Views0likes0Comments
