Learn about the distinct roles and responsibilities within Microsoft Fabric. Presenters James Mazzanti and George Vasyleha will examine the Platform Architect, Data Engineer, and Report Developer roles. They will dive into how these roles collaborate to build, maintain, and optimize data-driven solutions using Microsoft Fabric's integrated platform. The Platform Architect ensures the underlying infrastructure is scalable and secure, the Data Engineer focuses on data pipelines and transformations, while the Report Developer brings insights to life through interactive and impactful visualizations. A demo will show end-to-end data analytics solution (data ingestion, transformation and insights visualization) highlighting main roles in the project and their contributions to it. You'll see how Microsoft Fabric can streamline data processes from infrastructure setup to reporting. You will learn about 1. Team Structure 2. Skills and Expertise for each role (how to do they map to Fabric) 3. Real-world stories and experiences with Fabric 4. How to Collaborate and Develop as a Team James Mazzanti is Principal Architect at DesignMind and has led large implementations of Databricks and Microsoft Fabric. He is a full-stack BI developer with expertise in building frameworks. George Vasyleha is Principal Data Architect at DesignMind. Hi, We are using Power BI report server March 2018. I have a dev server set up and I am trying to expand user access to allow users to create their own schedules and manage reports. It seems that I would have to assign "System Administrator" to do this. I have read other articles suggesting I can add roles and/or customise them. I can't find this facility anywhere! Is someone able to tell me how to do this? Thanks in advance Chris.Solved26KViews0likes7CommentsField Parameter
Hi, I am using PBI RS with direct query to Tabular with roles. We want to show a different set of columns in an simple table object depending on roles permissions. Field Parameter seems to be the perfect match ! Is there any plan to include "Field Parameters" in Power BI Report Server ? Thanks and Regards, Ilan456Views0likes1CommentRow Level Security Issue
Hi everyone, I'm facing a problem applying a Row Level Security to my report. I have create a Rol where I filter the Countries depend on the user email. And when I click on test a role it works. Then when I publish the report on the workspace I can see the Role created. But the issue comes when anyone opens it and It is not filtered by the country of the person who is watching it. It is as if the role had not been applied. Do you know if i have to change anything on my workspace/report/database settings? Thank you, Regards.Solved872Views0likes1CommentManaging Report Access: Difference between a Reader and a Viewer?
Hi, Wondering what the difference between "Reader" and "Viewer" is? I'm not sure how I ended up creating the different roles, but essentially, I want the people I grant access to be able to view the report only (disabled accessing the dataset and editing). Thank you in advance.Solved2.6KViews0likes2CommentsPower BI Report Server - Role and permission
Hi, I am aware of the available MS doc : Role definitions - predefined roles - SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) | Microsoft Docs that I read carefully but I find it a bit confusing, mainly because the roles and their associated tasks are shared between SSRS and Power BI RS... a bunch of tasks are related to features that aren't even available in Power BI RS ! I am also aware I can customize any role, but I'd prefer to use predefined ones if they are sufficient. Could you please help me to understand better : 1) Let's say a given user has both a Browser and Publisher role on a Folder. Can he manage (delete for instance) EVERY reports and subfolders present in the folder, or only the ones he owns ( = he's the creator of) ? If the answer is yes, what is the difference with a Content Manager ? Only the possibility to manage role and permission for that folder ? 2) Same scenario, but the user has only the Publisher role. On this folder, does it mean the user won't be able to see any reports that he doesn't own ? What happened if he delete a subfolder that contains reports he doesn't own and thus doesn't see ? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks in advance3.5KViews0likes2CommentsSharing dashboards with clientes outside our VPN
Hi community, I've encountered an issue, I would like to share a dashboard with a client outside my organization and I was searching for a possibility to share it with them without giving them access to the VPN. I would like also to restrict access with Row-level security since i will have 50 customers and only 5 will have acess to the full dashboard. The data is very sensitive Does anyone knows if this is possible? I'm willing to buy premium license Thanks in advance, Rodrigo1.4KViews0likes2CommentsRole Level Security does not add several users at once

Hi, There's a requirement for users who are not report server administrators to be able to create data-driven subscirptions. When they attempt to create this subscription, they get a permission insufficient error. I've read in MS docs that Data-driven subscriptions are typically created and maintained by report server administrators. As the report server administrator, I can create the subscription with no problem. However, I do not want to give users admin access. In this article: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/reporting-services/subscriptions/create-modify-and-delete-data-driven-subscriptions?view=sql-server-2017, it mentions that the author of the subscription must have permission to "Manage reports" and "Manage all subscriptions. I think this can be accomplished by creating a custom role. I've tried following this article: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/reporting-services/security/role-definitions-create-delete-or-modify?view=sql-server-ver15. To create a role definition in SSMS, I go to the reportserver database>expand the Roles folder. I only see a Database Roles folder and an Application Roles folder. How do I assign the "Manage reports" and "Manage all subscriptions permissions to a role? Also, I do not see the predined roles in the Database Roles folder or the Application Roles folder. Is this the right location?Solved1.7KViews0likes1Comment
