Hi everyone, I’m facing a Power BI Report Server compatibility issue and looking for the best practical solution. Client version: 2.138.2255.0 (referred to as January 2025) Error details show: Release November 2024 (24.11) for the same build My environment: Power BI RS Desktop January 2026 The report works on my side but cannot be opened by the client. Constraint: The client is in another country and does not allow rebuilding directly on their system. My questions: Where can I download the exact older RS Desktop version (2.138.2255.0) to match the client? If I cannot obtain that version, is there any workaround to ensure compatibility without rebuilding from scratch? Any best practices for handling this situation when access to the client environment is limited?Solved1.6KViews0likes7CommentsNewer version error, though not really new!
Hi We have a PBI RS (Currently Version 1.20.8944.34536 - May 2024) and use Desktop RS (Version 2.129.1127.0 64-bit - May 2024) to develop reports. Everything was working fine until yesterday, when I faced this error uploading reports to RS via portal: There was an error uploading your .pbix file. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file. Saving from Desktop RS gives me this error: An error occurred while attempting to save the report to Power BI Report Server. RSPowerBI log says: 2024-07-09 06:59:17.6734|ERROR|43|Failure in reportproperties| RequestID = s_7c9d4b6f-ff31-489d-968b-8f66dde94b17 Microsoft.PowerBI.Packaging.Storage.NewerFileVersionException: '1.31' is newer than the product version. at Microsoft.PowerBI.Packaging.PowerBIPackager.ValidateVersion(String versionContents, Version& pbixFileVersion) at Microsoft.PowerBI.Packaging.PowerBIPackager.Validate(Package storagePackage, Version& pbixFileVersion) at Microsoft.PowerBI.Packaging.PowerBIPackager.Open(Stream storageStream, Boolean& requiresConversionToReportLayout, Byte[]& securityBindings, Version& pbixFileVersion, Boolean skipValidation) at Microsoft.PowerBI.ReportServer.PbixLib.Parsing.PbixParserV1.ParsePbixFileIntoParts(Stream pbixFileAsStream, String requestId, String sessionId, Boolean areCustomVisualsEnabled) at Microsoft.PowerBI.ReportServer.PbixLib.Parsing.PbixParserV1.ParsePbixFileIntoParts(Stream pbixFileAsStream, String requestId, String sessionId) at Microsoft.PowerBI.ReportServer.WebApi.PbiApi.PbiApiController.<ShredFromStream>d__39.MoveNext() I download latest version of RS from MS website and attempted to upgrade (the above-mentioned version) with no luck. We haven't had updated our Desktop RS app recently. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.Solved5.6KViews1like9CommentsColumn in PBI Desktop doesn't appear in PBI Report Server

Dear Community, I already searched in this forum without finding any specific information from Microsoft. For specific reasons I want to use both versions of Power BI Desktop (Report Server and Power BI-Service) and I would like to know the best strategy to handle the PBIX-Files for both versions with a best practice approach. Microsoft states "Stay on the version of Power BI Desktop which is compatible for both the Power BI service and Power BI Report Server. New features are available to users approximately every 4 months in this scenario. This is the recommended approach because it's the simplest for reports authors to understand" (Planning a Power BI Enterprise Deployment, V3.1 as of May 2020). However, I am still unsure if I each PBIX file generated on Power BI Desktop (Report Server) does work without any problems in Power BI Desktop (Power BI-Service), if I use the 4 month update cycle for both version. I appriaciate your help. Kind regards RobinSolved7.5KViews0likes5CommentsPower BI Report Server Compatiable Power BI Desktop Versions
Hi there, We are currently running Report Server Version 15.0.2.557 and would like to know how do we go about checking which versions of Power BI Desktop are compatible with this Report Server version. If we create a dashboard in a later version of Power BI Desktop and try to upload it - it gives an error around and does not allow the upload of the dashboard? ThanksSolved5.4KViews0likes2Comments
