Power BI Report Server - Data source connections
Hi d_gosbell , Regarding PBI Report Server Data Source Connections, FYI - I have Power BI Desktop for Report Server (PBIRSD) installed on both PCs. I can save reports from both to the report server, and then edit the report back from there too. Local PC - My office laptop I use. I usually work on my Power BI Reports here, Report Server PC - PBI Report Server is installed on a Test Server we're using. For the Oracle data source connection, -Installed Oracle Client (ODAC) on the Report Server PC. -Connected the ports from the Report Server PC to the Oracle Development Server to access data. -Then I connected to the data table in PBIRSD in the report server pc itself. So now for this data I need to work on this pc. 1) Question, could this be done on my local PC itself? Like connected the ports from my local PC to the Oracle Server. But could not go with this option for security reasons, and that for the data to be connected and schedule refreshed it always has to be in the domain (and if you work from home, you need your vpn turned on to access the data - so that would disrupt the schedule refresh). -Also for Files connection, Created a shared folder on the Report Server PC itself (So I can put Excel Files here, and then get a network drive path) - which helps me to schedule refresh data on report server web portal. 2) I checked with IT if the shared folder could be created in my own PC itself instead of the report server PC, but it wasn't an option allowed for security reasons, and that it is better for the data folder to be in the domain and a common place if another user needs to access it. But, could it this shared folder have been created on my own local PC? Q) Is that how it usually works? For data source connection, and for schedule refreshing on the report server web portal, do data source connections have to be done on the report server pc itself, and not on my own local user pc? I also assumed the oracle server is better to be connected here (RS PC), in case any configuration needs to be done on the report server software installed on this pc. As it is sort of inconvienient to work in the Report Server PC rather than my own. For reasons such as - multiple other users also work on it, and that PC is a bit slow. To work on my Power BI Report, I now need to work on my local PC and the report server PC, so it is bit hard to do. Thanks in advance! Always appreciate your assistance.

Power BI new created user can not see data in report server while all other users can
I am trying to test how row level security works. I have a live connection between Power BI and my data model in SSAS. In order to test the row level security I have created a new user. I followed the row level security tutorial on the MS website but kept having trouble because when i logged in with the user in Report Server i could not see any data. All I could see was the blank table. However, what I realised was that even if i didn't put any row filters or even if I assigned the user as admin it still could not see any data. Here is what I see when i login with this test user (even though they now have an admin role and should see all the data): Would anyone be able to assist with this? When I login with my own user in report server I can see all the data fine. Would really appreciate the help.

Reuse data model across Power BI Files on Desktop and Report Server
Hi Guys, Our clients is using Power BI Desktop and Report Server April 2018 for Reporting and Analytics. One of them have grown to build more than 200 dashboards / reports. They have a recurring problem of having to recreate data models and implement changes across data models for the same changes. E.g. A Customer Table used in 10 Power BI Reports on the Report Server needs to be individually changed in each report when there is a change in the underlying Customer Table. The fact that Reports and Data Sets are combined in the report is making t hard for the team to keep up with the changes and keeping the model standard across the reports. We also have situation where calculation created / updated in One Report needs to be duplicated and modified in all the reports which need the same calculations. It becomes hard to find out where these columns have been used and then to replicate the changes. The client cannot use Power BI Service and does not want to use Reporting Server Dataset due to unreliable data models. This is a growing problem with more than one customer now and has already reached pain threshold for one. Does anything know how to solve this issues without using Power BI Service or Reporting Server Data Sets? We want to create a single data model that can be used by multiple Power BI Reports on the Report Server. Thanks for reading and your time.

Report Server Dataset
Hi All, I have created a dataset in my Power BI Report Server and when i create a paginated report on the server, I am able to use this dataset. But, when I try to create a Power BI report, it takes me to the Power BI Desktop and I cannot see anywhere the dataset I added. Can someone help please? Thanks.
