report server data refresh
17 TopicsDesktop and Report Server Different Data
Hello, Ive an interesting problem for 1 report. I manage dozens reports but there is one that has this problem. The data shows correctly on power BI Desktop, i can refresh and see accurate results. However when i publish it, it immediately has wrong data. it seems like the date range or supplier Name gets filtered so theres no data after june and a really limited list of suppliers showing. I have no idea why this difference occurs. What it should look like(Seen on Desktop) What it looks Like on Web If you have any ideas why these would display differently. please let me know.703Views0likes2CommentsPartial Load Report Server

Hello d_gosbell , I’m currently working on a Department’s Dashboard where their data sources are on SharePoint Online Folders/ Files. Once the data is connected to Power BI – I need to save it on Power BI Report Server, ensure connectivity, and schedule refresh the data. The objective is that the data is connected live, and a schedule refresh is available on the Report Server Web Portal. Power BI Report Server gives an error that SharePoint Online files are not supported for Scheduled refresh and Live/ Direct Query. -Our client has a strict requirement for On-premises only, so I cannot use Power BI Service. -What can be done in the case where the data is SharePoint Online Files to be connected to the Report Server, or Alternatives on how to connect the data and ensure live data on a refresh schedule? P.S: I've created a shortcut for the Sharepoint Folders I need on OneDrive - so currently I connected the data to Power BI by giving a C drive file location. So, now as we do for File type data sources, do I have to map to a network drive path and then connect this data? Thanks in advance!Solved1.9KViews0likes1CommentAutomatic report Refresh in Power BI Report Server with Sharepoint On-Premise
Hi, I have a report in Power BI Report Server and it has a connection to Sharepoint On-Premise, I know that it is not possible to schedule an automatic refresh. But is there any workaround to solve this problem? Tks_2.1KViews0likes9CommentsPower BI Report Server - Data Sources to Use and Connect
Hi d_gosbell , Currently I'm working with Power BI Reports on PBI Desktop for Report Server. Have the PBIRS (Jan 22) Version via SQL Enterprise. Edition. Most of my company's data is stored in Excel Shared Spreadsheets on Sharepoint Online, or the Excel File is locally maintained and sent via emails to the team. Data Sources Currently - Shared Excel Doc on Sharepoint Online, Excel Doc - received by email weekly or so, and an Excel Sheet (Connected to SQL directly) - but I need to actually click on the refresh button to refesh the data in the sheet. 1) Shared Excel Spreadsheet on Sharepoint Online - As PBIRS does not support refresh for sharepoint online data sources. What is the alternative here? Saving the Excel Sheet on the test server (where the PBIRS system is) - leading to question 2 below. 2) Excel Doc via Email weekly - An Excel File saved locally on my own System. If there are any updates - I would want it to reflect in the PBI Report too. Now, since I cannot refresh a locally connected file on my system in the report in the web portal. When I asked this previously, you mentioned that you need to change the data source in Power BI Desktop to point to a network share using a UNC path. These usually look something like the following \\server\sharename\folder\file.xlsx Can you elaborate what this means? Does this mean that I should save this Excel file on the Test Server (Where PBIRS is present) so that the Data source also refreshes in the web portal? 3) Refreshable Excel Sheet - If this Excel Sheet - Connected to PBI Directly. I would still have to click the refresh button myself in the Excel Sheet - and then those updates - will come up in PBI when refreshed. There is no way to automatically refresh and update the data in PBI right. So, as Excel is directly connected to the Company's SQL Server, I would have to do the same with PBI and directly connect it to SQL. So, in PBIRS Web Portal, I click on Manage - Data Source - Give the creds for SQL then? Is that correct? How is PBIRS connected to SQL? You had mentioned I can take the Query from Advanced Editor (in the Refreshable Excel Sheet - Query Editor) then paste the same in a blank query in PBI to directly connect it to SQL right. The issue is that, the Query Editor in Excel is blocked, I don't seem to have access to view the query. So, I have to request my Company's IT to connect the PBI too SQL then right? 4) Last Q, there is a lot of data saved on internal Company systems (on SQL or Oracle Databases) - for that connection to PBI, I will have to request IT from my company to assist on that right. Thanks in advance! Really appreciate all your support.Solved3.6KViews0likes1CommentReport Server Web Portal - Connection Error for Sharepoint Data Source
Hello d_gosbell , I have a report saved in the Report Server Web Portal (I uploaded it in the Portal directly). Now, in this report I have a Sharepoint data source. I want this report's data to be refreshed when the Excel File saved in Sharepoint (Data source) refreshes. 1) I clicked - report in the Web Portal - Data Source section. I put in my own system (Active Directory) credentials to check. I even tried using the Admin credentials, but I keep getting this error? (See images) I entered the creds correctly though, so not sure. P.S - Power BI Report Server (Jan 2022) via SQL Server with SA is installed on another laptop at my company (Refered as the Test Server). I'm using my own system currently where I work on Report Server Desktop, then upload the report directly on the web portal. I wanted to check how data would be refreshed in report server. 2) Also, if my data source in PBI is an excel file saved on my local desktop, I cannot schedule a data refresh? Eg: If there is an update in my Excel File, how will that change be reflected in the PBI file saved in report server? 3) Last question, when I try to Save As in PBI Desktop for Report Server, so it gets directly saved and updated in the Web Portal. Here it requests for the address of the web portal, when I enter the exact web portal URL, I get this error? No other reason is given? Because of this I have to upload my PBI Report directly through the Web Portal. Issue is though, if I want to edit and save my report again, those changes don't reflect in the web portal. So, if I were to save my report directly here in the desktop app, those changes would come up in the PBI File saved in the portal right? I tried to open (as in edit though PBI desktop option) on the portal, but I got an unexpected error there and it did not open in PBI Desktop to make edits. Is there a workaround to this? Really appreciate your help. Thank you in advance!Solved2.4KViews0likes1CommentScheduled Refresh - hourly for only certain days

we have like 100s of reports in report server, I am going to check the shceduled refresh for each report and change them if they are not required to be refreshed frequently(for example we have many reports with every hour refresh) I was wondering if there is any meta data regarding those refresh times for all files in one single report to show me the frequency of each report Currently, I need to check all of them one by one which is very time consuming not sure even that kind of report exist!Solved2.3KViews0likes2CommentsQuestion about scheduled refresh
Hi all, I have a quick question about the scheduled refresh of reports in 'import mode' deployed to a Report Server. FYI, we have obtained Power BI Report Server as part of a purchase of SQL Server Enterprise with active Software Assurance (SA). We retrieve our data from a single SQL Server database. Now, I'm questioning my decision to create reports in 'import mode' because of limitations in the scheduled data refresh. I'm confused by the following: Power BI Premium has a scheduled refresh limit of 48 times a day I've seen examples where people are able to set the scheduled refresh at a minimum of 1 minute (15 minutes in the screenshot below): Now what situation am I in? I would really like to be in the second situation. 🙂 In any case, 48 times a day would be a questionable frequency since my end-users prefer a report that's updated once a minute or every few minutes. I assume that would require me to create reports in DirectQuery mode (or Live?). Advice is very welcome. 🙂Solved1.7KViews0likes4Comments
