Power BI Report Server Architecture Question
Hey All, We are planning a new architecture, and are considering switching to Power BI from another visualization app. We are also beginning a project to build a new Enterprise Data Warehouse. This new infrastructure ought to cover the following components: SSAS Power BI Report Server SQL Server Database Engine ReportServerDB for Power BI report Server. We have a 4 core SQL Server 2019 Enterprise License with Software Assurance. The current design is as follows: Server A: Hosts -- Power BI Report Server Server B: Hosts -- SQL server Database Engine, SSAS, ReportServerDB (Report Server Catalog) My understanding is that SQL Server Enterprise edition Software assurance provides us licensing for Power BI Report Server in addition to the other services that I mentioned. Will the license cover all servcies for Server A and B as described above? or does Power BI need to be installed on Server B as well? Lastly, Any idea how much overhead ReportServerDB (Report Server Catalog) will require? Our current setup utilizes Tableau, which has an internal Report Server Catalog deployed via PostgreSQL on the same server that Tableau is installed on. It would seem to me that a difference here is that Microsoft is pushing the Report Server Catalog off of Server A to Server B. Is that correct? or am I just completely misreading the documentation? thanks!
Power BI Reports Server - Legal situation when sharing reports with a subsidiary organization
Hello Power BI Community, Regardless of the Report Server license model, I am concerned about the legal classification regarding the use of the PBI Report Server for users outside the parent organization. I am aware that a Pro license is required only to publish a report to the server, but not to view reports. E.g. users or guest users from a subsidiary organization or even completely external users ( invited aas a guest in Azure). -> What is the legal situation here? Licensing, requirements and remote access
Hi! We are planning to use Power BI Report Server (PBRS) in our organization. I have a few qustions regarding PBRS: 1) If PBRS is fully on-premise solution, why should we buy Pro licenses for report creators? Do I understand it correctly: all the data is processed and stored on our local server without using cloud? 2) If we purchase PBRS through Premium licensing, do we need to buy additional SQL Server license to store PBRS database? 3) If we purchase PBRS through SQL+SA, do we need to buy or install any additional software to use PBRS? 4) Are there any ways of viewing PBRS reports remotely outside our local network? Number of users with Power BI Premium on premise
Hello, I would like to ask you an information, because I can't get a clear answer. Let's say I have 5000 users and I want to deploy Power BI Report Server on premise, so I have to get Power BI Premium (no SQL Server Enterprise with SA available). One single user is in charge of creating and sharing the reports (1 Power BI Pro licence) and the other 4999 need only to view the reports (which are filtered with RLS) frequently. My question is: can I purchase the lowest tier Power BI Premium licence (1 P1 Node) since I'm using my personal server (e.g. 8 cores, 16 GB RAM)? Or do I have to get the number of nodes accordingly to my number of users?
