Hi We have a Power BI Report Server but we using direct query rather than Import Method. Eventually we would like to convert to Import Mode but business says it related to cost because of additional RAM usage. if we would like to optimise the code by writing CTE query method but won't support isn't it? What other query methods we can use to optimise? Please can you explain strong reason why Direct is not better than Import? Direct Disadvantages and Import Advantages.. and also we are not intrested in Live data because all we need is Current Day-1 Data and we are not expecting latest data always because it holds same data in database on whole day.Solved1.4KViews0likes3CommentsPower BI RAM Issues
Hi Experts, We have 64 GB RAM sitting in Server and We have Power BI Reproting Server 99% Reports are direct query and I understand that its not efficient to do it in this way. So with this 99% Directquery Reports RAM Consumtion is like 80% because this is at Testing phase. People develop and test etc For this Direct Query process When running the query it will take RAM Consumption and after result it sits into Power BI Report correct? In Prod it is 30% Consumption for all Direct Query because we have only Release reports in it. Now we would like to move to Import Method and lets say file size is having 500MB. When it refresh it consumes RAM but when it comes into Desktop, while we done with Visual and all, does the data still sits in RAM or Disk? If after refreshing if it sits in RAM that means total RAM Consumption will be 1GB correct? Or Will it sits into Disk after refreshing? Please help as this is very important for us to understand for decission making Is it something related to Increase RAM? Few are saying it will still sit in RAM few are saying still sit in Disk.. not sure.. How can i fix this import method? What should be the standard RAM size in Server?Solved1.6KViews0likes4CommentsSchedule Refresh hitting memory and fails
Hi Currently we have Server Memory Issue I beleive. Previously we used to use direct query and performance is very poor as first time I started using Import Method by using same SQL Script in Advance option. When I refresh in Power BI Desktop it is running successfully (SQL is coming from Pre Prod) and retrieving latest data all good. But when we change the data source to Prod to deploy in server(SQL is coming from Prod) and it is hitting the memory and not refreshing at all and it is failing to get the data. Is it because of Server Memory Size and how can it be fixed. Note:- Power BI desktop is 450 MB and I have 4 SQL Scripts and each script retrieves around 10K of rows which means 40K Rows max. There is no additonal steps in Power Query because all calcualtions done in SQL. Please HelpSolved548Views0likes2CommentsPermissions and Users
