There are two issues revealed in May 2026 version of Power BI Desktop RS app when working with "Oracle Database" data source. [1] From May 2026 version Power BI Desktop RS cannot connect to TNS names from tnsnames.ora that linked using instruction "IFILE" (include from external file): IFILE = N:\DBA\Oracle\additional_tnsnames.ora January 2026 version can work with such external TNS names (although Report Builder never can). [2] From May 2026 verson Power BI Desktop RS cannot connect to some usual TNS names that worked before. It returns strange Oracle error "Oracle: ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied". But in fact credentials are correct, server is available. You can rollback Power BI Desktop RS to January 2026 version and same connection works again. Problems above looks like some new bug in "Oracle Database" data source type.966Views0likes8Comments"No ODAC driver is found on the System" after September 2023 Update
Hello, since I've updated our on-Premise PowerBI Report Server to the newest Version September 2023, I can no longer connect to Oracle Databases with the following error message: "An error happened while reading data from the provider: 'No ODAC driver is found on the system. Please visit https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkID=272376 to install the provider.'" Before I installed the Update everything was working fine, tnsnames.ora is still correct and tnsping also works fine. I didn't change anything to the installed ODAC drivers or stuff like that, all I did was install the newest PowerBI Update. Any suggestions on how to fix that error?Solved103KViews1like22CommentsThe ORACLE Selected Data extension is not installed or cannot be included

Good afternoon! Anonymous and I are building a report that performs a Direct Query to an Oracle database with a custom SQL query (that we feel is optimized) through a gateway. We originally had several search boxes with the Text Filter visual added, but when we would search we would immediately lose all the visuals. We replaced this with a slicer. It takes a moment for all the values to load, but when we select one it works. If we attempt to search the slicer at all, we lose the slicer visual with an ORA-00904 (invalid identifier) error. If the slicer has loaded all the selections, is it passing the search through SQL? I assumed it would just search in local memory. Do we need to do something funky to the SQL query? Is this just an optimization issue? Hopefully we're not the only people fighting this. Thanks in advance!638Views0likes1CommentScheduled Refresh of report timing out error
We have a Power BI Desktop (Optimised for Report Server File) report built and have uploaded it to our Power BI Report Server. The report talks to our Oracle SQL Database. If I refresh the report directly from the desktop file, the report will update and bring in any changes. I've attempted to try schedule this refresh on the report server however get the following error: "Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation. The exception was raised by the IDbCommand interface" My confusion is that when testing the Data Sources, our Oracle connection with our authentication when clicked 'Test Connection' brings back 'Connected Successfully'. The only other observation is under 'Scheduled Refresh', the 'Status' stays stuck at "Started Data Refresh" and doesn't change regardless of the page being refreshed. Does anyone have any ideas? Confusing me as the report refreshes locally and connection should work but the scheduled refresh fails1.2KViews1like1CommentGetting an error when we connect to Oracle data source connection through Direct query mode on PBIRS
Hello All, We're trying to connect to 'Oracle' data source connection through 'Direct Query mode' and it's working as expected on Power BI desktop application, but when we publish this report to Power BI report server ( On premise ) , we're getting the below shown error. Note : We've validated the data source connection on power bi report server and the connection is successful, but we're seeing this error. And current, we're using Power BI Report server May'2021 version and PBI desktop May'2021 version. We saw the same issue on earlier version ( i.e. January 2021 ) also . Could you please look into this issue and kindly let us know your suggestions to fix it. Setting up new Power BI server When I enter my credentials on the data source for a report I'm getting the error: "Couldn't connect The report server couldn't connect to the data source using the information you entered. Make sure you've entered the connection string and any credentials correctly. Connection request timed out" It works fine in desktop with the same credentials. I did install the 64 bit Oracle data connectors on the server but don't know how to test if it was successful. Also updated tnsnames file with the version we use for everything else. Connection string is the standard: data source=instance_name;persist security info=TrueSolved5.1KViews0likes4CommentsHelp with: Connecting Oracle Database to Power-BI Report Server desktop
Hi, I have struggled with a simple issue for days now. I need to connect to an Oracle Database and retreive data from there, but I cant make it work. I have followed the steps in the following microsoft link: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/desktop-connect-oracle-database My Power-BI report server desktop is 64-bit version which is in line with my computer. I have downloaded both 32- and 64-bit ODAC 122011 (Not the Xcopy version) and saved them in different directories. I have also tried an earlier version of both 32- and 64-bit ODAC 121024. - I always tick the box of Machine Wide configuration in the installation of the ODAC - I always run the installation as administrator - I even unpackaged the .zip file in temp to isolate the file from onedrive connection - I have all the TNS information and access in order to connect to the database (I can connect it through oracle developer). * I always untick the "Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio" in the installation of the 32-bit ODAC versions - because i cannot install the ODAC with this ticked due to the fact that I dont have visual studio installed. Despite this, I always get the messege from Power-BI that I have not installed the Oracle client once I try to retreive data from an Oracle Database. Am I doing something wrong or am I missing anything? Do I need visual studio to just connect to an oracle DB? We are unable to connect to an Oracle database from our on prem Power BI Report Server using Desktop with Direct Query or with Report Builder's Paginated reports. The Oracle connection test connection passes on the Report Server but the preview of a Data Set does not work on the Report Server and says preview is unavailable. On the Report Builder, the data source connection does not successfully connect and we recieve execution errors. Import works with dashboards created in Desktop but not Direct Query. Power BI supports Direct Query and, when the datasets are huge, the user prefers to go for the direct query. Not all is functionality available in Direct Query Mode. In the last article, we have discussed how time intelligence works well with Direct Query. In this article, we will explore more complex measures.16KViews3likes1Comment
