Issues with connection to Oracle Database data source in Power BI Desktop RS May 2026
There are two issues revealed in May 2026 version of Power BI Desktop RS app when working with "Oracle Database" data source. [1] From May 2026 version Power BI Desktop RS cannot connect to TNS names from tnsnames.ora that linked using instruction "IFILE" (include from external file): IFILE = N:\DBA\Oracle\additional_tnsnames.ora January 2026 version can work with such external TNS names (although Report Builder never can). [2] From May 2026 verson Power BI Desktop RS cannot connect to some usual TNS names that worked before. It returns strange Oracle error "Oracle: ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied". But in fact credentials are correct, server is available. You can rollback Power BI Desktop RS to January 2026 version and same connection works again. Problems above looks like some new bug in "Oracle Database" data source type.

I have the error: The selected ORACLE data extension is not installed or cannot be loaded. Verify that the selected data extension is installed on the client for local reports and on the report server for published reports. in the made new connection with Oracle Database, How can fix the error? anyone see that error? Searching a slicer in my Direct Query report blows it up (ORA-00904)
Good afternoon! Anonymous and I are building a report that performs a Direct Query to an Oracle database with a custom SQL query (that we feel is optimized) through a gateway. We originally had several search boxes with the Text Filter visual added, but when we would search we would immediately lose all the visuals. We replaced this with a slicer. It takes a moment for all the values to load, but when we select one it works. If we attempt to search the slicer at all, we lose the slicer visual with an ORA-00904 (invalid identifier) error. If the slicer has loaded all the selections, is it passing the search through SQL? I assumed it would just search in local memory. Do we need to do something funky to the SQL query? Is this just an optimization issue? Hopefully we're not the only people fighting this. Thanks in advance!Scheduled Refresh of report timing out error
We have a Power BI Desktop (Optimised for Report Server File) report built and have uploaded it to our Power BI Report Server. The report talks to our Oracle SQL Database. If I refresh the report directly from the desktop file, the report will update and bring in any changes. I've attempted to try schedule this refresh on the report server however get the following error: "Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation. The exception was raised by the IDbCommand interface" My confusion is that when testing the Data Sources, our Oracle connection with our authentication when clicked 'Test Connection' brings back 'Connected Successfully'. The only other observation is under 'Scheduled Refresh', the 'Status' stays stuck at "Started Data Refresh" and doesn't change regardless of the page being refreshed. Does anyone have any ideas? Hello All, We're trying to connect to 'Oracle' data source connection through 'Direct Query mode' and it's working as expected on Power BI desktop application, but when we publish this report to Power BI report server ( On premise ) , we're getting the below shown error. Note : We've validated the data source connection on power bi report server and the connection is successful, but we're seeing this error. And current, we're using Power BI Report server May'2021 version and PBI desktop May'2021 version. We saw the same issue on earlier version ( i.e. January 2021 ) also .
