on-premies data gateway
4 TopicsHow to best perform access audit on on-premise data sources?
Objective Can we identify which users accessed which on-premise data sources? Assumptions Both PBI Service and Report Server are being used for reports. Questions 1. Seems like the audit logs for PBI Service can return "ExploreDataset" events with a "User" attribute. Does this also apply to on-premise data sources? It shouldn't matter whether the dataset is on-premise or on-cloud, right? 2. For on-prem scenarios, does either Report Server or the On-premise Gateway have logs identifying which users accessed which databases? 3. For Desktop connections, users connect directly to the databases, so access audit should be taken directly from the databases. Is that right?3.9KViews0likes3CommentsOn-prem data GW keeps creating junk files on C-drive
After installing a new PBI On-prem data GW 14.16.6549.2 junk files and folder a created on the C-drive Example of folders names: +360YjLX+XPUzmDSeJ+tr8t3XOXDiJvuh0OYpY69Bw= +LdWMP+iqbr+5doyd1DZiiFYd1OknhyH6F1m4YyHoo= +LtLM+aswqVWoa85K8onvUPgm78aexj4gx9VzlwGCM= and so on. About 10-20 new folders are created every day, and I really have to concentrate when cleaning them out so that the windows folder among others do not get removed! Within the folders, I find the exact same structure: Index - empty folder Temp - empty folder Cache.Key - file I have two other gateway installations NOT doing this, and I cant find anything in the logs explaining why those folders are created. I know it is the GW creating them because file owner is local account "PBIEgwService". Fist step would of course be to reinstall the gw but it runs a bounch data sources in a global company with a number of credentials, so the task of re-installing is quite excensive. And so I dont really like to do it if unnessesary.Solved17KViews1like32CommentsQuestion on On Premises Gateways
Hello, We are running Power BI Report Server (May 2019) on SQL Server 2016 Build 13.0.5366.0. The operating system is Windows Server 2016 version 1+07 (OS Build 14393.3085). One of our developers is requesting that we install the On-Premises Gateway on our Power BI Report Server. The reason is that the data needs to be exposed outside of our domain. The plan is to use the free Power BI service which will allow us to embed a report into a web page with the Publish to Web Feature. https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/gateway/ We will have security considerations to deal with as our on premises data will be exposed to the cloud. As the data is for public consumption, could we not just publish reports to the free Power BI service and update them on a regular schedule? Any recommendations on exposing data outside of our domain would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.558Views0likes0CommentsOn-Premise Gateway not available in Power BI Service
I have created my pibx file and published it to Power BI Service, however, I cannot change my gateway to move this from my personal gateway to my companies On-Premise Gateway. The selection has been greyed out. My Parent Company was the group who created the access to Power BI Server via a Cloud Portal and I was wondering the reason I cannot select the On-Premise Gateway was due to them blocking access. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this issue.2.2KViews0likes5Comments
