5 TopicsLicensing a virtual machine with SQL Enterprise core based license and SA
Hello I'm hoping someone can clarify something for me. We're about to license one of our virtual machines with SQL Server Enterprise Edtion and SA under the core based licensing model. This virtual machine will have 12vCPUs assigned and used for various application DBs. We want to spin up a separate server that will be used as the Power BI report server. This will have 6vCPUs assigned. Will our SQL Enterprise license with SA automatically cover us for this other server or will we need to purchase additional SQL Enterprise core licenses? Hi All, We have two instances of PowerBI On Prem Reporting Server. One is a Developer edition used for Testing and Development, while the second is an Enterprise Edition used for "Live" reports. I updated both to the new Sept 2021 release but I noticed a few differences in the Reporting Configuration on the Enterprise Edition. Developer Edition Enterprise Edition The Enterprise edition is missing the Edition details, and does not show the 'Scale Out Deployment' tab or the 'Power BI Services (Cloud)' Tab. Does anyone know if this is a bug or some of this information has just been moved? The reports seem to be working fine, so i'm not hugely worried but wanted to check to be on the safe side. Thanks to anyone that can help shed some light.Solved2.2KViews0likes5CommentsPower BI Enterprise Deployment with Report Server
I found a really good white paper from July 2018 on deployment options - https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2057861 This white paper also has a really good comparison of features in report server vs service. I am looking for a similar white paper on the current set of power bi - particular on deployment model with report server and differences. Given the aggressive release schedule, I am sure a lot must have changed by now. Any help will be greatly apprecaited. Regards Anil588Views0likes0CommentsSQL Server EE + SA pro user For PBIRS
We are going to acquire 4 pack of SQL Server Enterprise + SA in order to get PBI RS access - Do we need to get Power BI pro users as well ( 9.99 USD per user) in order to have Report creators or On-prem solution (PBIRS) doesn't require pro users?897Views0likes1CommentPBI Report Server without BPI Premium licensing requirements
Assuming I want to work towards the "small" variant of the proposed "best practice" four-server topology of Power BI Report Server. 1 Enterprise Edition SQL + SA requirement: which virtual machines would require a SQL EE + SA ? Or none at all in case a SQL EE+ SA with 8 cores and 32GB already exists somewhere else in my organisation? Would SQL Standard in terms of functionality be sufficient for the rest of the virtual machines? 2 PowerBI Pro license requirement: the EULA mentions "A Power BI Pro User SL is required to publish shared Power BI reports using the Power BI Report Server". What triggers me is the "shared" part. Would this mean that users that don't share published reports (e.g. by using the "My Folder") are in line with the EULA as well? I assume admins can still see these reports so in that sense they would still be "shared" in a way.... Thx for helping me out.1.2KViews0likes0Comments
