Migrating SSRS to the Power BI service as a Paginated Report, is there not a way to use a shared "Data Source" (the connection string not a sementic model like what PBI Desktop uses)? If I have 50 reports that all connect to the same database on SSRS the reports all use that Data Source with the connection string to Dev/Test/Prod and we need to update that database name or string, etc... in SSRS we just edit that data source connection. However in the PBI Service there does not seem to be a way to share a connection string that way so if I need to update a server name I have to open each and every report and then change it, save, re-publish. Pipelines don't have that functionality for the paginated reports so is there anyway to handle this? Thank youSolved951Views2likes4CommentsUpdating only selected data sources in BI
I have a couple reports that I have been manually updating and uploading to BI online. Most of my reports are connected to a SQL database and various Excel reports. Current enterprise gateway that I have does not have access to my excel files. Is there a way I can refresh only the SQL data. The excel files are mostly lookup values that do not need to be updated. I have tried turning off include in report refresh in Power query. Didn't help. Any suggestions would be appreciated.Solved13KViews1like2CommentsFind Power BI data sources for on premise server
How can I run a query (sql, powershell, or rest) to find all the data sources of my Power BI dashboards? Most the documentation is around using powershell but the soultions are all against the cloud Power BI service. I have a local/on premise Power BI server and I am trying to document the SQL server names and databases for each of the published dashboards. It would be helpful if it looped through all the dashboards in the sub folders so I don't have to manually add the indivdual dashboards.828Views0likes1CommentUnable to update this data source's credentials. We have many users currently using data from an on premise SSAS model into Excel spreadsheet through Pivot tables. We would like to "gently" move them towards Power BI rather than pure Excel. Having said that, we must continue providing them the ability to use Excel if they wish (with linked rather than exported data). Is it possible to use Power BI Report Server models as an Excel datasource the same way we can do with an Analysis Services datasource?Solved1.9KViews0likes4CommentsData Sources in PowerBI Report Server
Hi everyone, Is there a way to change the datasource of multiple .pbix files in report server ? I'm trying to deploy all my .pbix files to a new environment, and I haven't found a way of doing it. I know I can open every .pbix and modify the connection there, but it would be great to have another way to do it. I've found a similar topic to this but it is from 2017: https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Report-Server/Using-Data-Sources-in-PowerBI-Report-Server-August-Preview/td-p/273665 Best Regards, LucasSolved989Views0likes1CommentWhere are we with Shared Data Sources for Power BI Reports?
We are going through updating some documentation for deploying paginated reports and Power BI reports to Power BI Report Server, and I'm being reminded of how clunky the situation still is with managing data sources for PBI reports. I noticed in the January 2020 release there is a new PBIDS format, and it got me wondering if this might be a path to getting pubished shared data source that can be used for multiple reports? It's just one more difference between the paginated and Power BI reports that makes things feel disjointed.627Views1like0CommentsIs this even possible? Split of Data Sources and Reports
(I apologise beforehand if this isnt the correct forum) Hi all, I'm looking for more information around PowerBI. Specifically around users extenral to our data team using the product. Scenario follows; 1) They wish for us to create data sources (multiple types) and deploy them to PowerBI as a data source - to manage/update daily etc. 2) From these, they then wish to create measures on demand, new reports etc. That will then use the data source outlined in step 1. The issue; 1) Creating a data source from a database server is complete. The refresh is set to 9am daily. 2a) User creates report in PowerBI (on the web) and is unable to create measures. 2b) User downloads the data source pbix, creates report and new measures in PowerBI (Desktop) this then either overwrites the data source (causing issues where things have been changed) or creates another data source, that then needs to be configured for refresh etc). Another additional point is through the use of the .pbix download - They are then able to navigate to other tables on the SQL server, effectivly looking where they should not be, as people exterior to the department. Has anyone had exprience with similar issues?Solved1.6KViews0likes2Comments
