Just wondering if anyone else has come across an issue with shared datasets on a local instance of Power BI Reports Server. We created several shared data sets on our Power BI Reports Server and we can access the datasets using the path instancename/Reports/api/v2.0/datasets(Path='pathofdataset') without issue however once we append /data the the URL to pull the actual data we receive the error code of 500 (internal server error). We've reviewed the logs and there's no mention of any error and we haven't found any information on what's causing this. We are able to use load data against the dataset when we are in the Reports Server UI. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I upgraded to the October PBI Report Server earlier this week. We have recognized that PBI reports with embedded models do now refresh on a schedule (wahoo! yay!); however, the report seems to revert back to the as-first-uploaded version of the data some time after the scheduled refresh. After some research and testing, I think the problem may be that the updated data set is being evicted from memory per the ModelExpirationMinutes setting on the PBI RS (setting accessible through SSMS). The desired behavior is that the PBI report adopt the refreshed data set FOREVER, not just for the 60 minutes in the ModelExpirationMinutes. So, can I set the ModelExpirationMinutes to zero so that the refreshed data sets never disappear? Or, any other advice for me? It's counter-intuitive for the users to have their data set go backward in time if the scheduled refresh stops or if the refresh interval exceeds the ModelExpirationMinutes.Solved9KViews0likes16CommentsUsing Data Sources in PowerBI Report Server (August Preview)

Hi, I wanted to know if there is a character limit inside the SSRS data set? We need to decide either to directly write data queries inside the data set or use stored procedures instead. Also, if theres is any limit to the number of data sets i can create/use in 1 single report. -Thanks Yaseen2.4KViews0likes2CommentsIs there a way I can publish a report and allow my customers to be able to upload their own data
Is there any way for my customers to upload their own data to a report I published and built for them? Ideally, I would like to be able to create reports and allow my customers to populate them with their own data without having to buy or install Power Bi on each customer's machine. Is there any way to do this?Solved1.3KViews0likes2CommentsSharing data sets in Power BI Report server
Hi, We have a Power BI Report Server i.e. the on-premise installation. We have few reports which use certain common data. The reports cannot be placed in the same PBIX files due to the business area seperation. Power BI stores the data in the PBIX file. Is there a way, that, the common data can be shared across PBIX files. It unnecessarily keep the common data and utilizes the RAM. Any suggestions or workaround is welcome. Hello, I'm trying to create a data set from one of my data sources. I would like to import multiple tables from a database of SQL Server, but I am not able to do so. Do you know if it's possible? I don't want just a single table. Thank you NickSolved9.4KViews0likes1CommentImporting dataset for mobile report fails
Hi, I tried to create a mobile report using one of the datasets I logged in my Power Bi Report Server, but it always seems to log data while at the end it gets back to the page where I should choose the data set, without importing anything. If I choose to import from an Excel file, it works fine. Why? Thanks Nick859Views0likes0Comments
