We’re switching things up this month by hosting our PUG meetup during lunch! Join members of Tallan’s Data Team for a presentation on ArcGIS Power BI Visual & Azure Maps and April's feature updates. We’ll kick the hour off by covering April’s latest and greatest Power BI feature updates and then head into the feature presentation. ArcGIS is an underutilized map feature in Power BI. Understanding how to tap into its full potential will greatly enhance your ability to plot data geographically leading to a whole new perspective. Using ArcGIS’s built-in map, plus its services feature, we’ll explore all the capabilities it has to offer. Additionally, there will be some insights into the new Azure Map (preview) for Power BI and the SDKs to enhance Azure Maps in the Web Services.Data Perspective in Power BI
Data Perspective in Power BI In this era, where we have a strong need to understand the data around; it is essential to have a skill where one can turn data into a story and explain it using the right tools, which can be well received by the audience. In this session I will take you on a journey where we will try to find insights in the data by visualising it using Microsoft Power BI and then further turn this data into a story that is easy to understand by the audience. Hybrid Tables in Power BI Hybrid tables, a new addition to Power BI, are a game changer in that they provide the best of both worlds by allowing one table to have two storage modes at the same time! Before the introduction of Hybrid tables, each table in Power BI could only have one storage mode: Import which loaded data entirely into Power BI’s memory or DirectQuery which left data in the back-end data source. When working with near real time requirements, Power BI developers had to use tables with DirectQuery; however, DirectQuery by itself could result in less than optimum query performance for large datasets and put a burden on the backend system. Hybrid tables combine the two storage modes and therefore provide improved query performance for historical data by loading them into memory (Import) and provide near real time capability for recent data (DirectQuery). Join this session to learn about different table storage modes in Power BI including the newest Hybrid option and how to use it.
