Report Design for the Novice Power BI Report Consumer Your data model may be brilliant, and your visuals may be powerful, but what do you do if some of the potential report consumers, who need your amazing work, just say “no thanks”. There is a good chance that those users might be: • Worried about having to learn something new • Afraid to be embarrassed about not knowing how to analyze data. These are some of the most common reasons people resist anything to do with Technology. Fortunately, these issues can be easily resolved with report design. Not changing your existing reports, that more than likely someone in your company specifically wanted. But instead, adding some additional report pages, that will easily guide these “Novice” users through exploring data for themselves. Join Belinda for a demonstration and discussion on some easy visualizations and report options to make all users excited about checking out data. The most powerful data visualizations include context. Charts and Graphs on a BI dashboard are great, but adding context can be much more impactful. For example, the red bars on a hospital’s environmental monitoring dashboard will alert you of a problem, but if you can click on the red bars and see a floor plan with the exact location, your response can be better. Similarly, when a dashboard includes a network diagram that shows real-time server status, and a click shows you the data required to initiate the fix, you’re two steps ahead. How do we achieve this level of insight? We can add context to our Power BI reports with floor plans, network diagrams, process maps, or org charts created in Visio. This session includes live demos of Visio/Power BI integration from a real-world project. The customer’s goal was to provide frontline workers using Teams with easy access to Power BI visualizations that bring Visio diagrams to life. While the customer in this case study happens to run theme parks, the examples include Power BI tips and techniques that are applicable in many business scenarios. In this demo-packed session, you will learn: How to provide the power of context to your reports and dashboards How to easily incorporate Visio diagrams into your solutions Food for thought about how you can provide your company or clients a whole new level of context and power Scott A. Helmers is a Partner at the Harvard Computing Group, a software and consulting firm that assists clients with understanding and implementing business process solutions.
