SSMS connection failure to reporting services
Hello, we recently migrated the Report Server to a new machine running the latest SQL Server Standard 2025 (Dev). The Report Server version was upgraded to January 2026. Unfortunately, I am no longer able to connect to the Reporting Services instance via SSMS (22.6). I am using Windows Authentication with the system administrator account. In the instance selection for Reporting Services, the local instance MACHINE\PBIRS is visible, but the connection attempt fails after some time. The reported cause is a generic error message: Cannot connect to the server at "MACHINE\PBIRS". The specified URL may not be valid, or there may be an issue with the report server version or configuration. Specify a different URL, or contact the server administrator to verify that the report server is running SQL Server 2008 or later. Also, when attempting to connect to a SharePoint integrated report server, ensure that SharePoint is installed on the server and that the report server is configured for SharePoint integrated mode. Cant change Power BI Reporting DB ?
Hi, I am a SQL DBA who is fairly new to the Power BI admin side of things. I have been asked to change an existing deployment, to move the SQL Workload off one server to another. Currently Server A Hosts the Power BI Reporting, the databases for this are on Server B, these are the databases I need to move to server C. However when I try to move the databases and re point the database via the Database/Change Database/Choose an Existing Report Server Database functionality, it says. "This Edition of Reporting Services requires that you use local SQL Server realtional databases" Thing is, this happens with either the name of the new server (C) or the existing one (B) which is already in and working so its already using a server that is not local, I can see connections to it ? So it must have been accepted at some point. Both servers can be succesfully connecto using the "Test Connection". Another thing that seems unusual, and may be related, on the front page, under Report Server Status it has an instance ID of "PBIRS", and the next item down is the edition which is blank. Any ideas, suggestions gratefully received.

migrating database sources to another server; impact on connectivity
Hi there, planning to move some DWH databases from one server to another. Only the server name will change, databases are restored on the new server. I wonder if it only takes changing the gateway datasource definitions to point all scheduled datasets to the new source? Or is it mandatory to republish all reports with the 'new' connection? Quite a number of reports in that case, loads of work I imagine..
