Azure access for PowerBI online
Hi all, What I'm struggling with at the moment: We have an Azure tenant with 1 SQL server and 3 databases running I have created several PowerBI reports in the desktop version, everything works well When publishing the reports, I get an error for most of the visuals, but not all: Error fetching data for this visual, A connection could not be made to the data source with the Name of '{"protocol":"tds","address":{"server":"tcp:db-.......windows.net","database":"sql-........database"},"authentication":null,"query":null}'. I have tried using workspaces, app registration in Entra ID, etc. Firewall is set to allow access, roles and groups as well. The only thing I can think of is a gateway, but seems to me we should be able to manage access without if some of the visuals return with data. What am I missing?? Thanks for your help!

Change data source connection strings in Power BI reports with PowerShell
Hi, I'm trying to automate PowerBI reports deployment using Azure Pipelines and PowerShell. I am able to connect to PowerBI using Connect-PowerBIServiceAccount and a service principal. I also can list workspaces and existing reports. My next task is to change the data source connections. I have been following this MS documentation https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/report-server/connect-data-source-apis but when I try the following: # Get report parameters $parameters = Get-RsRestItemDataModelParameters '/Infusion_Model_Auto' I get this error: Failed to create a new session to http://localhost/reports/api/v2.0/me : | The cmdlet cannot protect plain text secrets sent over unencrypted | connections. To suppress this warning and send plain text secrets over | unencrypted networks, reissue the command specifying the | AllowUnencryptedAuthentication parameter. I'm not sure what's going on, since I already have an active connection. Thanks for any help.

On premises Gateway and Azure
Hello We have all our reports connect to data on our server which has SQL server on it. We have an on premises gateway on our server for the reports to link to the server. Do we also need azure or is azure something different?

Azure partition refresh issue
Hi all, I am refreshing ds partitions via Azur runbooks and powershell scripts. This week I noticed that the error below appears (previously everything worked fine) This is the line that its calling: $Srv.Connect($connectionString) And the connection string: $connectionString ="Provider=MSOLAP;Data Source=$XmlaEndpoint;User ID=app:$PowerBIServiceApplicationID;Password=$PowerBIServiceApplicationKey;Persist Security Info=True;Impersonation Level=Impersonate" Do you have any suggestions why suddenly this script stoped working a week ago? Data source unreachable
I have created a PBI report in the desktop version using excel files from OneDrive and dataset from Azure. In the desktop version all works well, but when I publish it I get an error. The "File" hyperlink just sends me back to the main page. And according to my IT team, there's no Gateway for Azure report. I have tried to publish a report with just excel files from OD or just some tables and measures from Azure - it works. But when I publish the combination of these two, the visuals don't work. I have checked other threads here but nothing seems to help. .

Best Option for Power BI Data Repository
The current Finance role that I am in involves standardizing reports for a wide audience to use. I have developed multiple Power BI reports that others are using, and I want to have a data repository for all current and future Power BI reports. The current location of my data is on my personal computer, but I want the data to be available for other analysts to grab when they want to develop their own Power BI reports/analysis. Unfortunately, I cannot connect directly to SAP HANA (IT will now allow it) but instead have to query the data out of SAP HANA using Analysis for Microsoft Excel and connect to flat files/workbooks that hold the data. I am currently trying to decide on the best location to house the data for the Power BI reports, and I am currently looking into using SharePoint, SQL database, a shared server, or Azure. I think Azure is the least likely option due to cost and the required involvement of IT, but I still want to include it as an option, nonetheless. Is there someone that can give the pros and cons of each (to use as a data repository) for the organization’s Power BI reports? I have never used SQL or Azure as a data connection in Power BI, so any information would be helpful. It is just me that will be maintaining this data repository, so I am trying to keep it simple but efficient. Ideally, I would not be adding a week’s working hours as a database administrator on top of my current role. Below are what I have so far as my options: SharePoint- This is the option I am leaning towards mostly as of now. Pros -It would not require an on-premises data connection for Power BI Service. -Can use a macro to refresh the queries held in each excel workbook that would be held on SharePoint and then refresh the reports in Power BI Service -The team I work for manages the SharePoint site for the organization -It would not require additional cost unless we start to get close to the storage capacity of our SP site Cons -Takes a long time to bring data into Power BI Desktop and slower refresh connecting to an online data source -Can potentially be a lot of excel workbooks and folders SQL database Pros -Can use Select statements within Power BI reports to gather only the data I would need instead of pulling in an entire dataset (Not a huge benefit I think but a benefit, regardless) -Additional capabilities in Power BI because of connection to database? (Direct Query?) -Can create relationships between datasets (Not sure if I would use/need this feature) Cons -Would have to use an on-premises data connection for Power BI Service. Would maybe require a virtual machine to run scheduled refreshes. -Would require the skill and time to manage the database Shared Server Pros -Would be faster than using SharePoint (Online data repository) Cons -Would have to use an on-premises data connection for Power BI Service. Pros -Can handle a lot of data (More than a SQL db I believe) -Additional capabilities with Power BI? -Would I need an on-premises data connection in Power BI Service for this, since the data is housed in the cloud? Avoid Azure Session Timeout for ReportServer
We have setup Report Server and host several reports/dashboards. The authentication is via Azure Active Directory Authentication. One of the annoying issues users have been complaining about that the session times out while they are using the dashboard, causing them to refresh the dashboard and start over with their analysis. Is this is an expected issue that everyone is living with or is there some way around this?

PowerBI Report server Azure Marketplace template is not deploying Defect from Microsoft
Hi, I tried to showcase P{owerBI Report server to our management. So I loggedin to the Azure Portal and found this template from marketplace. When I deployed this template after entering the password.It could not be deployed and I tried it at least 10 times but it never works. Looks like Microsoft Team is not even testing their product before releasing it to the customer. I have engaged Microsoft support (Case # :120042024005458 | e Cannot create a VM using Power BI Report Server image from Azure Marketplace) and it has been four days they are unable to figure it out what the issue is. Due to alll this one of the important customer demo and production movement into the Azure environment has to be CANCELLED. Any clue!! Regards Rajaniesh
