Sorry for the newbie question. I'm looking for an authoritative link in the documentation that describes how or if Report Server, running in an AWS EC2 instance (aka, a VM) can connect to an AWS RDS SQL Server database. I'm trying to get a client who today runs Report Server in an EC2 instance and connects to an AWS EC2 instance running SQL Server to consider migrating the database to RDS. The client insists that things "do not work" in this configuration, including the ability to refresh reports in the web UI (or at least I think that's what he's describing as the limitation). Thanks in advance for any pointers and, especially, links to the doc that may directly address this question.863Views0likes1CommentUsing Azure Active Directory with AWS hosted "On Premise" server
Hello, I'm evaluating hosting PowerBI within an AWS environment and am wondering whether or not Azure Active Directory can be used in that context. The PowerBI server will be used for customer facing reports that require row level security and I want to manage those groups using AAD. Thank youSolved1.3KViews0likes2CommentsPowerBI report connecting to AWS Athena fails
Hi everybody! I'm currently trying to connect a PowerBI Report to our AWS Athena datasource. This works perfectly fine for PowerBI Desktop using the official connector from AWS (https://docs.aws.amazon.com/athena/latest/ug/connect-with-odbc-and-power-bi.html) As soon as I'm uploading the report to the Report Server I get errors as such: "The given data source kind is not supported. Data source kind: UnknownFunction" Now my question, does the PowerBI Report Server support the connector to AWS Athena? If yes ... any ideas if I need some additional configuration on the Report Server? (i've configure the odbc drivers and firewall settings already) If no ... any ideas on how to overcome this? Is there a plan that the connector will be supported? Thanks in advance! CarinaSolved1.6KViews2likes1CommentFile and database via gateway on a Windows AWS Server
Hello everyone, I spent a week trying to connect a cloud report with the data in an AWS EC2 instance with a Windows server. My sources of data are a Microsoft SQL server in another machine and some excel and CSV files. My SQL server is running in another machine and can be reached via an internal AWS network and with the respective security group configuration. I could expose/"connect with the app" to the SQL server via a gateway install in my Windows server. I also have the files in the server but I can't expose them via the gateway, showing me bad credentials when I try to add them as files new data source. I also tried to upload and share via one drive, but I couldn't link the files via sharepoint. I hope someone could help me. Regards,1.1KViews0likes2Comments- 960Views0likes2Comments
AutoUpdate PostgreSQL dataset Not Working
Hello everyone, I have a question abount the dataset autoupdate. We have some datasets connected directly to a postgresql database locatted in a rds of Amazon. If I try to update those dataset manually I have not got any inconvenients but the autoupdate is not working. Hello everyone, Has anyone ever run into an issue where a specific Power BI pbix file seemed to have adverse affects on your on prem gateway? I had a specific report that was connecting to an AWS Redshift data source and every time I would refresh the report in app.powerbi, I would get an error message saying that the gateway ran into an issue and the gateway may have been restarting (common error it seems like). But it would only happen with that report. It also appeared, although I can't confirm, that the gateway was crashing when I would try to refresh this report and then would restore itself some time later. I ended up rebuilding it completely from scratch with a new pbix file. Additional details, all of our reports use AWS Redshift as a data source. They all connect to the same cluster.493Views0likes0CommentsReport Sever hosted on AWS
Hi team, My customer is asking to host PBI Report Server on AWS (VMs) instead of an On-Premises Server. Reviewing PBI Server Report install requirements, I can see that is necessary to have a Windows Server for PBI Report Server and a Windows Server for SQL. Having this in mind, I think that is perfectly possible to install it on an AWS VMs...so, my questions are..... 1. Is this possible? 2. Any success case with this subject? 3. Additional considerations? Thank you.603Views0likes0Commentspower BI reporting services Licensing
Hi All, My enterprise use SSRS and has a license for SQL Server Enterprise Edition . According link we can use power bi report server as well without pay extra. I've few questions: 1. Are the clients should pay for the service - watch and interact those reports ? 2. Is there possibility to build those reports with direct query to AWS Redshift ? 3. Is there possibility to design reports with enterprise logo same as SSRS ? Tks, Dan948Views1like0Comments
