Re: Dashboarding Declined
I was a little disheartened too when I saw that email this morning. My company, as with hundreds of others, can't put our data in the cloud due to various state statutes. I was hoping to get on premise dashboards at some point in the future. Sometimes it feels as though on premise is an after thought.5.2KViews2likes0CommentsRestrict access to open pbix in desktop from server
Is it possible to restrict the access to a user from opening a report on the server and clicking "Edit in Power BI Desktop" or removing the download option from the ellipsis menu? I looked at the security settings at the report level and at the site level but nothing popped out at me. We have a handful of users that are set to read only access but I would hate for one of them to download and open a local copy of a report, manipulate the data and have someone run off with it claiming the data is skewed. Thanks.Re: 32-bit version of new October 2017: Unable to start Power BI Desktop
I am having a similar issue, I believe. I have the 32bit version of the PowerBI Desktop (RS) on my computer and it fails to start. I get a command line window appearing while the application tries to launch. The command line window can be seen in attached image. My coworkers can run the 64bit version without issue. Hopefully this is the same thing. Thanks.3.3KViews0likes0CommentsOctober PowerBI Desktop (RS Version) fails to start
I tried to upgrade my instance of PowerBI Desktop when we upgraded to the October RS GA release. Unfortunately, the application fails to start. I was able to run the June and August releases without issue but for some reason the October one fails. When I try to start PowerBI the yellow and black loading screen pops up followed by a command window. The command window briefly flashes with an exception code. (See screenshot below) Following the error, I get a message saying it can't connect to the model. This is running on a 32bit Win 7 machine. Initially, I just tried to upgrade my August version to the October version. Then I uninstalled everything, rebooted and tried a fresh install. Both wound up at the same spot. My co-workers that are running a 64bit Win7 system had no problem upgrading and starting the desktop app. Any help/tips/ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.2.1KViews0likes3Commentsopen new report without restarting application
The Desktop application needs the ability to open a new or existing PBI report without having to launch a new instance of the Desktop application. It should happen like Visual Studio or Word. You should be able to close the report and open a new one without the whole application shutting down.81Views3likes1CommentRe: On Premis Report Server Licence
I am in the same boat as you, only in the US. We are just large enough to warrant SQL Server Enterprise with a SA but can't afford the $5,000/mo usage fee. I read a few posts yesterday hinting at possibly using the $10/user fee schedule, but I would like something more concrete. We have two or three users that would create reports and about a dozen or so that would view them. We have no need nor the desire to put our data in the cloud. Hopefully someone can shed a little more light on this.6.9KViews0likes8CommentsRe: Map issue - location name
I am curious as to what is in the table or the JSON file you used. Does it have the coordinates or anything else in it? Or is it strictly the parish names? I tried using the parish name minus the ' Parish' part and it still failed to associate correctly. Thanks.2.2KViews1like1Comment
